Chances for UW?

GPA UW: 3.56
Old SAT: 2020 (converted to new SAT: 1420)
ACT: 31
APs including senior year: 5

Major: Computer Science

ECs: 2 year internship at a tech startup doing software development, administering user tests etc…, 3 years varsity tennis, NHS, volunteering teaching senior citizens how to use their technology, some more less significant ECs…

Demographic: In state, asian/white

Also, I know computer science is really hard to get into at UW, is it any easier getting into computer engineering? And if you don’t get direct admission into computer science, what would it take to get in to the major through regular admission?

Oh I should add that I think my essays were pretty decent, in the first prompt and the additional prompt, I feel like I really expressed my passion for the field of computer science, and the culture essay I would call meh…

I think you have a very good chance, because your GPA is a 3.56 and your SAT score is above average for them. You’re scores are a match to UW, but since your instate it makes it even easier for you. Good luck and thank you for being the only person to chance me on my thread :frowning:

Best of luck to you too! I hope we both get in!

Washington’s Common Data Set reports the unweighted GPA of enrolled freshmen in 2015 as follows:

3.75 to 4.00: 64.24%
3.50 to 3.74: 27.16%
3.25 to 3.49: 6.52%
3.00 to 3.24: 1.52%
Under 3.00: 0.56%

The average unweighted GPA was 3.78.

The middle 50% ACT range of enrolled freshmen was 26-31.

Thus, you are at the lower end for GPA but at the higher end for ACT, and instate should help you.

Good luck!
