Chances for Villanova?

Hey, I'm a white male from a suburb near Philly. I go to a top-tier public highschool and I want to major in Communications at 'Nova.

Some stats:
Weighted GPA: 3.77 (Junior Year GPA: about a 4.)
SATs/2400: 1840
SATs/1600: 1250

Will take APMacro in senior year.

Honors Courses: Modern World History, American Gov't/Econ, English/Rhetoric -- grades 11/12.

Will take Spanish 5 in Senior Year.

EC's:
-Community Service Club
-FBLA: regional semifinalist in Business Communications competition
-Nationally Syndicated Contributor of bleacherreport.com (I contribute sports articles)
-I work at Chick-Fil-A
-I have done Tobacco Compliance work with my local police enforcement to aid them in citing dealers of tobacco to minors.

Some other Universities I'm interested in:
BU
Northeastern
Syracuse

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Oh, And I coach intramural youth basketball for fun. Grades 8/9

Bumppppp…

Villanova will most likely be a reach for you…your ECs are pretty bland, and your scores are on the low side of VU. Avg. SAT score at VU is 1300 and GPA is about 3.75-3.85. I would try and get either my SAT up to a 1350 or do some more in depth ECs…

For BU you stand a decent shot. Probably will get in.

Syracuse and northeastern you should get accepted to.

Thanks I appreciate the information.

I kinda knew going into it that 'Nova would be a reach for me. I can only hope I raise my GPA in Senior year Closer to the 3.85 you mentioned.

If my essay is killer, will that play a solid role in the admission process? Good reccomendaions from teachers? The fact that I’m coming from in-state as opposed from abroad?

Thanks for the help again. It’s nice to have an idea of how I stand.

Can you retake the SAT? That’s something you can change quickly, the GPA (since they only really look at first semester senior year) won’t go up much. I think you have a chance, but it’s still a bit of a reach/low target.

I have already taken the SATs twice, and I’m not in a place to whip $50 out the window to take a test I may or may not improve in.

With that said, hopefully they take into acct. the difficulty of my senior schedule, and like what they see from my essay.

Thanks again for the feedback!

A killer essay always plays a decent role…if you raise your GPA to 3.85 and if you can boost your ECs, and also have good recs then the only thing you will be low on is your SAT…if that is the case then you will stand a much better shot and actually a pretty good one. But if you have the same stats as of right now then it will remain a reach. VU does take geographic diversity into the equation and since you are from PA then it will actually hurt you or not play a factor but def. won’t be a boon.

Just try and enhance your app(GPA, ECs, Essay) and you will stand a good shot. Good luck!

Absolutely.

Thanks for the help & wishes! Much appreciated!

Villanova also has a supplemental essay. Take your time to write that essay, since it is very important to them.

BU and Northeastern may also be reach schools for you.

You have a shot. You are a solid match for northeasten and Syracuse. BU and Villanova are reaches but you have enough of a chance that it is worth applying.
