Have toured WFU and interviewed in person.

Thank you very much.

I would say 50/50 chance. The GPA is close maybe a little low, SATs are a little low but WFU doesn’t require them so that shouldn’t hurt you too much. EC s are good. I would say you would be in if you applied ED but if your not willing to do that then I would take the SAT one more time in October and really concentrate on the math portion because its one of the more important two and it s your lowest. I’d suggest a course, although they are kind of expensive, but I took one and raised my CR score by 80 points to a 690 just by attending the course twice a week for an hour. Although they don’t require the SAT if you could get yours over a 2000 it would certainly help

Okay chances. I think it is a high match for you. Applying ED would help if Wake Forest truly is your top choice. I would say recommend working on your essays (they are very important) now and getting your LOR’s early, and make sure they are good.

Taking a course is kind of pointless, they are a waste of money. Get a prep book and do some practice from it.

You do look like a solid candidate.

Thank you.

He’s already planning to do everything you’ve suggested. (Well, maybe not ED. We’ll see.)

Update - he got in.

He originally applied RD. But, on Feb 10, Admissions suggested he switch to ED. (He’s an AROTC scholarship recipient and I guess they like to get those wrapped up before RD action is in full swing.)

Congratulations to DougBetsy S!! Our D is graduating in May. She has absolutely loved her time at Wake – hope the same is true for your S. H & I will miss going to Parents Weekend every year. Go Deacs!

DougBetsy, Congratulations! My son is graduating as well, we could not wish for a better experience for him. I wish your son all the best, and feel free to PM me if I can be of any help. One tip to start is to make family weekend reservations asap! We liked the Marriott on University Blvd. nothing fancy, but closest to campus and nice. Just a suggestion, there are lots of places close by, but this one you can walk to the football and basketball games, so that is a real plus. Truly, I wish all of you the best!

Link to Marriott:

^^^ OK, njmom – we MUST have met at some point in the past 4 years! H & I always stay at the Courtyard. Will you be there for graduation, too? See you in the hallways!

Congrats to your son!! My D will be there too - it’s so exciting! We stayed at the Courtyard when we visited and it is a great location. I think we know when orientation is but am not sure about the Fall Parents Weekend??

Family Weekend 2010 will be October 1-3. Registration will begin July 1.

This is from the Wake website. At the top of the home page, there’s a “Parents” link. On the Parents page there’s a menu down the left side – including one for Family Weekend. By all means, get a hotel now, and sign up for other events as soon as registration opens up on July 1.

CBBBlinker- We must have met! We are staying at the hotel across from the Marriott this time, as I was not quick enough calling for a reservation at the Marriott. It is called the Sundance, and we checked it out when we were at Wake a few ago, and it looks very nice. I am eagerly waiting to hear who the commencement speaker will be, as Wake usually has someone quite interesting. Lets hope our kids have a great few months before heading out into the real world!
