haha! Thanks. Now if I could only get adcoms to think the same thing... ;)

hmm.. That's interesting about MIT. Collegeboard lists Character/Personal Qualities as the only "Very Important Factor" for MIT & I got the impression that they wanted a well-rounded student from reading their website as well.

hahah, yeah, I will probably apply there anyway. (: I'll definitely research their business programs more though, after hearing what you said.

It's good to hear that about Stern. I would love to go there; it's probably my third or fourth choice.

lmaoooo. This whole college process is just stressing me out a lot lately and I feel like I know so little, so I guess I just get really easily swayed! Ultimately, I will probably make the choice that I want, but I just want to learn more about the schools that websites wouldn't be able to portray. (Like.. I never thought about the small amount of alumni thing!)

UPenn (Wharton) ED - WL/Reject (Need higher SAT)
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper) - Reach (WL)
Boston College - Probable
UVA - Slight Reach; Comm School is tough as hell to get into
MIT (Sloan) - WL/Reject (Need higher SAT)

no, im pretty sure you have a good shot at Wharton
ur sat's are fine, a girl from my school got in (ED) with a 2150 SAT and a lot of
EC's similar to yours, also she had no business experience before.
as long as your essay is mature and stuff, u stand a good chance!

other schools, idk, hopefully u'll get admitted ED and not care about the other schools, ha

More than 50% of UPenn's class has above a 700 CR SAT score (same for W section). And ED doesn't lower the standards by much... I've seen similar applicants get WL/R. Just highlighting the reality of Wharton. It is damn competitive.

Good news is that UVa's a bit easier to get into, and has the #2 B-school. You should be good for that.

@Ularb: Yep.. Wharton admissions can be pretty unpredictable, so I am not expecting anything at all. I'll be taking the SATs again in Oct though, so hopefully I'll be able to raise my CR & W score. Do you think it would look bad if I took it 4 times though?

@Adamonkey: Haha.. Yeah, hopefully I'll be as lucky as that girl then. :) You never know though, right?

@starss. I was talking about the schools on your list not being safeties.

Someone else mentioned once again that 'lack of business related EC's' can be a problem. Believe me it doesn't matter. As long as you show enough potential for being a leader and some inclination towards the business world you are fine.

@Fuzzylogic. 50/50 are amazing amazing odds. It makes it a low reach for OP. OP will be probably be applying to Stern and it is probably the toughest school to get into at NYU. In the first place, having a higher GPA than the 75th percentile does not make any school a match for anyone. Secondly thats the 75th percentile for the whole of NYU. it will probably be the average for people who get into Stern.

OP i do think that giving the SAT1 four times will be looked down upon. unless you somehow manage a score which is much better than your present score and explain to the adcoms that you couldn't somehow give the SAT to your full potential before. However, the number of times one can give the SAT has always been debated but I personally draw a line at 3 times.

@moizuhk
Just to be clear, I don't want this to blow up into some big deal, just a friendly discussion, in my opinion 50/50 are not amazing odds, true the 3.65 is a NYU cumulative GPA average, and stern is on the upper spectrum, however the OP has a 4.0, a 2200, with Ec's, that puts her in the competitive pool at Wharton. I'm pretty sure that the odds are way more than that 50/50.

@ OP I def agree with Moizuhk that Business related EC's do not have any effect whatsoever on your application, B-schools just want smart people who can grasp concepts relatively easily. Also SAT's don't really matter past a certain point, a 2400 and a 2300 is not all that different, I'm pretty certain that they carry either the same, or close to the same weight, get it past a 2300 and you will be extremely competitive. However don't feel like you HAVE to get a 2300, everything is taken in holistically, don't stress to much about it, enjoy your summer =].

@Fuzzylogic
Sure, it is a friendly discussion. but just to reiterate a 50% percentage is way higher than the acceptance rate at Stern (almost double!). If anyone told me I had a 50% chance at a great college like NYU i would be pretty pleased. As far as her stats putting her in the "competitive pool at Wharton" is concerned, I am sorry but i have to disagree. OP seriously lacks in her EC's in terms of awards and leadership (one of the most important factors at Wharton). At best she has an average chance especially considering the fact that this might be the most competitive year ever. Not even a Val with a 2400 and brilliant EC's can be sure of being admitted to Wharton.

As far as her SAT is concerned i think OP has the right ingredients with perfect Math scores but it would be great if she would also have all 3 scores above 700 (then her SAT score should not be a source of any concern in her application). But I am not sure if she should give it the fourth time for 20 points.
