SheerReflection, from what I've heard, male applicants have slightly higher chances of being accepted at Whitman (true for many LACs). Your test scores are on the very low end, so I strongly suggest retaking the test or trying the ACT. Keep your grades up, and you'll have a very good shot next year. Have you visited the area? Walla Walla is a smal, but very charming town, and the kids at Whitman are very down to Earth and very outdoorsy.

whitman i think seems to look more of you as a person than just test scores... i got accepted (i'm a female) with act composite of 26... 29-eng, 28-math, 23-reading, 23-science, 10-essay... i think your chances are good!

President Bridges stated that he has a personal stake in getting more economic diversity on campus (not to be confused with the ongoing goal of more ethnic diversity). Be sure that your first generation college status stands out - maybe in one of your essays.
Being a guy helps too, as at most LACs. They also respond well to kids who show them that they are likely to enroll if admitted - they get too many who consider them the safety to Stanford and Pomona.
That stated, your test scores are your weak link, but you are just a junior. Try the ACT later this spring and consider taking the SAT again after a self study period. Many kids have been succesful with CC's favorite, the Xiggi method:
