Hi, I'm a female Asian who goes to a crazy competitive high school. I'm a 2006 junior and have not taken all of my SATs yet...so here's what I have so far!

GPA: unweighted 3.97, weighted: 4.5
SATI: Expecting 2100-2200...:\
SATIIs: Chinese - 790, Chemistry - 670 (will retake!!)
* What other SATs should I take, other than Math IIC? My math/science is not strong but the Lit will not be appropriate pre-AP English (only available to seniors)...any suggestions??
EC: Very good, some leadership positions (will be prez for California Scholarship Federation senior year) in oncampus clubs and national youth organizations.
I want to major in... journalism/communications/politics/marketing/advertising...errm hahah obviously undecided but somewhere around theree...

So are any of these possible?:
NYU (would LOVE to go there! there is one school..don't remember the name but it's perfect for my interests :])
Washington U
Amherst
Boston University
Georgetown
Carnegie Mellon
Williams
Northwestern
Dartmouth
- other private liberal arts!

Also UCs? UCLA? Davis, San Diego, ext...

Please give me feedback...reading the stats of CC users gets me VERY depressed

Your GPA is plenty fine, your ECs are impressive, and your scores aren't half bad. Up that Chemistry a bit. Any APs? Make sure you score well on your AP exams, and you'll be a competetive applicant at any of those schools.

I'd say you're pretty good, I'm hoping to go to UCSD I think. Or an Ivy, how come you haven't thought of many of those? Can you post in my thread now?

there is nothing wrong with her list. Amherst, Williams are Ivy -Caliber (better than some of them), Northwestern, Washington (st.Louis) are also Ivy-caliber, and Dartmouth is a part of the ivy league; it seems that she likes east-coast schools.

As far as the Jounalism go, nothing can beat Medill school of journalism of Northwestern; this one is the hardest school in Northwestern U. to get into. If you are set on journalism, doing ED will greatly help you out.

Washington U - reach
Amherst - reach
Boston University - safety/match
Georgetown - matchish reach (depends on the major)
Carnegie Mellon - good match
Williams - reach
Northwestern - matchish reach
Dartmouth - reach
NYU CAS - match/safety
NYU STERN - matchish reach

Amherst/Dartmouth/Williams have low asian-population compared to other top-notch schools. This might help you out :).

haha yay :) thanks for the replies!
aignam, my APs this year include Chemistry and US History
next year: Govt, Calc BC, Bio, French

our school actually only offers chemistry, bio, us history, calc, govt, french, spanish and comp sci. they cut...pysch, statistics and music theory...we are a pooor pooor public school.

i will also be taking 2-3 college courses over summer and might (HOPEFULLY!) get to intern! :]

what ivy league liberal arts would you guys recommend?
and hopemanjkjk, yah i like eastcoast schools..even though i live in cali. haha.

oops forgot to include AP Lit for senior year as well...
our school has a weird policy...govt and lit AP are only available senior year and we have no such thing as history or lit honors..also this year we don't even have a French AP but with enough students they're resurrecting it next year. haha a little pitiful :

can you guys think up a list of matches or safeties for me?

here are some details of my ECs because ECs may be my stronger area:
- Treasurer of San Jose's Youth Advisory Council (in connection to the City Government)
- Education Chair for March of Dimes' Chain Reaction Leadership Council
- Activities Coordinator and Prez for California Scholarship Federation
- Executive Assistant for Key Club
- Team Captain for Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary volunteers
- NonFiction Editor (and possibly Editor-in-Chief next yr) for school's Literary Magazine.

i'm not sure which ones of these are actually worthy of putting on my resume and which ones are just dead weight.

for some unknown reason, i'm drawn to ivy league liberal arts...what do you guys think?

thank you again! this has been very helpful!!
