Chances freaking out!

Hello, NU is my top choice but it is a reach but any input would still be appreciated

GPA:
3.2 UW so low due to straight B's my freshman year but huge upward trend
Instate
high school is in the top three in the state
public
average accepted gpa from my school is a 3.3
my school is very competitive and colleges know this
double legacy (both parents attended)
SAT 1800 (1200)

Great EC's

I'll list the main ones

4 years varsity hockey captain
15 hours a week working with special needs kids

assuming good recs and my essay is very strong

I think it’s a bit of a reach but with the upward trend in your grades you certainly have a shot. If you applied EA, you should know Thursday.

Just so you know, everyone says they have good recs and a strong essay. I don’t know how NU weights legacy, but if your parents both went there, I’d say your chances become good.

thank you! i didn’t apply EA because I want them to see my 1st quarter grades. which were a 3.8

Right answer!

Where else have you applied? What’s your safety school?

so you think i have at least a shot especially with my 1st term grades? I’m more worried about my scores but some are on the low end of the 50% spectrum. im also applying to UVM ithaca quinnipiac unh and a few other safeties

Sounds like it to me, especially if your school’s accepted average is 3.3 (although I don’t know what that really means).

At this point you are along for the ride, so just don’t take the pack off between now and graduation.

on naviance, the average accepted gpa is a 3.3 and i know kids that got in with a lower GPA than mine and perhaps no upward trend, but that was them and this is me. guess i’ll just have to wait and see! its out of my control at this point

Not quite out of your control. Universities like to see someone who finishes strong. A person who isn’t the smartest kid in class but maximizes their potential and does everything possible to succeed, is more impressive than someone more talented who coasts to the finish line.

Be the kid you’d accept if YOU were the admissions officer at Northeastern.

this is true, ill keep working. thanks for the insight! i really hope i get in!
i guess nothing’s impossibile…
