I am planning on attending a community college after I graduate high school due to personal problems at home.

USC is my dream school but due to my low grades in high school there is no possible way for me to get in at the moment.

Will it be possible to get into USC- Undecided as freshman if I study at a community college for a year taking regular classes or at the honor's program and getting a high G.P.A. Then apply as a freshman the following year

Ethnicity: Hispanic
Family Income: $20,000- $30,000
Gender: Male
High School G.P.A. (estimated): 84/100
A.C.T.: 23
Current State: New York
Extracurricular:

Track (all 4 years)

Deca/Business Club ( All 4 years, V.P. of Communications, 3rd place at regional competition, Qualified to compete at state competition)

Caddy at Country Club since 9th grade

Volunteer at Red Cross during senior year

Play percussion in Band since freshman year

If you take ANY courses after HS, you will NOT be applying to USC as a freshman, but as a transfer student. Our D went to CC and was the 1st from that CC to be apply & be accepted as a transfer. She communicated regularly with the USC admissions person assigned to her area of the country, so she could take courses at CC that would likely be accepted for transfer credit (only one course wasn’t & it was one she took before conferring with the USC admissions person).

Like you, her HS GPA wasn’t as good as she would have wished, but it was due to chronic health issues. She did score well on the SAT and also got a perfect score on the GED exam, which likely improved her chances. She applied as a sociology major, but shortly after admission switched to undecided.

The HS counselor advised her to wait until after she had 2 years of CC to apply, but she applied after getting her 1st semester grades from CC (she got 3.8). She was admitted as a spring admit (after she completed 3 semesters of CC). It worked well for her, but she was NOT a freshman admit. She was a 2nd semester sophomore.

S took a college course at 15 and lots of APs, but NO college courses until he started at USC. He was admitted as a freshman with 60 credits from all the APs and college course, but not as a transfer since he never attended any U after he graduated HS. He was a freshman admit with JR standing (by credits), and allowed to register earlier.

I would definitely call USC and let them know what you do. They will assign someone to you to guide you in your region, as the above poster commented on.

Work very hard at your cc and you can earn your way into USC. I transferred to SC after one year at a California Community College. I earned a 3.9, met all the requirements (make sure you take the right classes, check the articulation agreement) and took most of my GE’s. If you follow the agreement and get a high gpa you should have a good chance.
I love SC and all the hard work was well worth it.
