Transfer to USC from Community College

So basically, I did bad in high school for multiple reasons and therefore did not apply to any schools. I am graduating this year and plan to attend a community college, hopefully Santa Barbara City College. I am really hoping to transfer to USC (University of Southern California) after a recent visit there. I am ready to work my butt off and want to know from anyone with experience tips or information. I read that I will need to complete 30 transfer credits and was wondering if that is possible to complete in one year, rather than in two. I was also wondering if when transferring, they look at extra curricular activities in your community college. I had done multiple sports in high school but wasn't planning on doing them in community college unless it is looked at by USC. I have read that they look a lot at essays/personal statements and wan to see around a 3.7 GPA. And for all those wondering, yes I do realize that it is an expensive school.

I’m also graduating this year from high school. This thread doesn’t have much in terms of transfers, just a bunch of stressed out high schoolers who want to hear about whether they get into colleges or not. My brother is currently going through transferring to a UC. From what I have heard from him(he is a chemistry major, so may not apply to you), it takes about 2 years or even more to transfer to a UC. I am not mentioning USC because frankly, I don’t know much about transferring to a private. With that said, I don’t think a UC process would be much different than USC’s. For transfers, they care way more about GPA, and much less about EC’s. USC’s transfer rate is basically the same as UCLA’s, and UCLA doesn’t care much about ECs. I would suggest that you do some research yourself (maybe call an admissions officer at USC and ask them directly about ECs or look at some threads from past students who successfully transferred to USC from the past years). Btw, if you are looking at doing an application for USC, you might as well do it for the UC’s (you can save some money along the way too  ). Best of luck

Im in the exact same boat as you! It is possible to complete 30 years in one year and then transfer as a sophomore to USC. Lucky you, SBCC has an articulation agreement with USC which means all of the courses you take will transfer to USC so you don’t have to do those classes all over again once you get to USC. I believe that if you do have 30 units they mostly look at your transcript and maybe you SAT/ACT scores but I am not 100% sure on that so you might have to research that more. Good luck!
