Chances @ Harvard & Northwestern!

Chance my cousin for...
Harvard (ED)
Northwestern

3.89 GPA
32 ACT
EC: Dance team (varsity 3 years, JV 1 year)
Awards/honors: NHS

White female, math major

umm…is this all the information you have? there’s not a single hook or anything that i can see, besides MAYBE being a female majoring in math

Oh and was involved in several years of organizing charity walks for a nonprofit fitness organization.

but there’s absolutly nothing else? no ECs besides organizing charity walks and being on a dance team? no awards other than NHS, no SAT IIs?

No…I’m wondering how this will affect her chances. Do you think she has a shot at all?

SAT IIs:

Math 2: 640
Physics: 600

(I know she’s retaking them)

it depends. does your cousin go to a highly ranked private school? if she does then she will have a good chance. however, if she doesn’t she probably has a low chance because i don’t see any activities that stand out.

i don’t even think a highly ranked private school would do it. sure, it would validate the GPA…but a 32 on the ACT is low and there are no ECs which are a hook to adcoms.

This is all the info. No other activities. See above post for SAT IIs. Goes to a (well-regarded) public school.

If she can get her Sat II’s up to the 750-800 range and if she writes good essays, she might have a decent chance. Being a female in engineering will help though.

She’s not in engineering; just math.

Bumpppppp.
