Chances: Hispanic female?

<p>alright…sorry about this being another one of those “chances” threads…i really appreciate you taking a look at my info. and letting me know where i stand!
I am:
Hispanic female (National Hispanic Scholar) living in the South…i am planning on applying to UT Austin, Rice, Yale, Harvard, Brown, Northwestern, Tufts, and Macalaster…</p>

<p>G.P.A.: 6.500/6.500
ranked #1 in my class out of 493…so valedictorian
SAT: Total: 2100 (V719 M720 W670)
i have only taken SATII Math I (720) but i plan on taking spanish and math II </p>

<p>i am taking as many AP’s as possible this year…a total of 8 for high school</p>

<p>EC’s
–Varsity Tennis all four years–Team Captain
–Symphony Orchestra/ Cello Choir all four years–Vice President
–DEFY Club (a club against drugs)9-11–President
–National Honor Society 50 hrs community service (minimum)
–Amigos de las Americas (I went to Nicaragua this summer for 8 weeks as a volunteer…i lived in a very rural farming community by myself (and my partner) with a host family while i taught classes to children at the school about health and the environment, worked with the nurse at the health center and gave discussions to women there, and did a community-based initiative of building benches and a fence where they were needed)
–Spanish Study Abroad (2 summers ago for a month)
–Duke TIP Program: University of Kansas (3 summers ago…i took a class in medicine)
–Tri-M Society 10-12(music honor society)–Secretary
–Film Club–Secretary
–Stratford Playhouse for 4 years (Pit Orchestra)
–Freshman, Sophmore, and Junior Girls (a spirit organization)</p>

<p>i have worked as a lifeguard one summer and as a hostess/computer manager another summer</p>

<p>i have good essays (i think) and hopefully good teacher recs. (a very good one from my tennis coach)</p>

<p>I think you have an awesome chance @ Brown but I have one question. How can you have a 6.5/6.5 GPA? Do non-academic courses (as in P.E., Health, Speech, etc) not count towards your GPA? Because at my school, a perfect GPA (5.0/5.0) isn't possible.</p>

<p>hmm i'm not exactly sure myself...but i know our GPA is a little whack...no, i don't think non-academic courses count toward our gpa. i think that if you take as many honors classes as available a 6.5/6.5 gpa is possible (or whatever is proportional to a 4.0/4.0)</p>

<p>Oh really? That's pretty awesome - I wish my school was like that, cause all of my non-academic courses bring my GPA down. Well, good luck with Brown!</p>

<p>Wow, you look like an awesome candidate. It's impossible to predict admission at a school like Brown, but I'd say you have a pretty decent shot.</p>

<p>If you don't get into Brown, one of those fine institutions would probably love to have you. Do you have a safety school? If you live in Texas, UT Austin is obviously reasonable for you, but I don't know much about their admissions for out-of-state students.</p>

<p>Isn't Macalester pretty selective? It'd probably be a good match for you, but I dunno about a safety.</p>

<p>i know its SAT scores have a high range...i don't know exactly how competitive it is....for now, my best bet for a safety school is UT..you have a point</p>
