chances, i guess (for a *GASP* b student!)

i'm interested in seeing what you guys will say, i know you're going to be harsh but in general this site is overcritical, so i'm not that worried. i think i'll get into more schools than you'll give me credit for :D

i've been accepted to indiana u, SUNY buffalo and new paltz.

i'm waiting to hear from (10, it's insane): SUNY binghamton, beloit, clark, wooster, allegheny, moravian, UMD-CP (priority), wisconsin (in the process of reviewing my app), rochester, and my love, carleton.

-85/100 (3.0?) average from high school, upward, will be higher this term
-2 APs (this year, art history and gov, 2 honors classes- freshman, sophomore english, also accelerated)
-sat 640 cr/ 640 math/ 700 writing (11 essay)
-white, female, nyc, really good public school
-one amazing teacher rec, one im not so sure about
-pretty good extracurriculars (a couple years of soccer, 3 of crew, 2 of yearbook and editor-in-chief, some other athletic things, community service, etc.)

i can see myself most likely being rejected from binghamton, rochester and carleton, and possibly wisconsin and maryland. thoughts?

also, no need to bash! i know the chance of carleton is miniscule, but i love it, so i'm applying. thank you!

My guess is that you will be accepted to beloit, clark, wooster, allegheny, moravian, rochester, and UMD-CP. I would think that you will come up a little short, statistically speaking, for carleton (though you may have a hook that gets you in). Regarding binghamton and wisconsin, I really don't have a clue. It seems like with the state schools, so much depends on the number of acceptances they already have by the time they get to your application. (that may be the case with UM-CP, as well) Regarding rochester, if I remember correctly, rochester was accepting late applications last year to fill their class. That is usually a sign that they did not get the yield that they anticipated from their applicant pool. So, I speculate that perhaps they will accept a greater percentage of their applicants this year.

In terms of your love for carleton, in my opinion the school on your list that most closely resembles the students and academic feeling of carleton is beloit. Obviously, beloit is less selective than carleton, but they tend to attract the same types of students.

Good luck. I think that you will have a number of excellent schools to choose from when all is said and done.

thank you! yeah, on princeton review i've seen where it says "students also look at and also prefer... carleton, etc" on beloit's profile. i want to visit these schools but they're so far away.

rochester has the smallest yield i've seen for any school- i think it was 18% last year. so many people use it as a safety, and it sucks for them, because it seems like a good school
