<p>Applying to the CFA/CAS combo program at BU, CFA at Syracuse, and undecided on American all regular decision
GPA: UW 3.2/ W 3.7 (my grades are strange. I have mostly As or Cs. I did horribly first semester of freshman year with 2 Ds and a C, but my grades have increased greatly since. However, in second semester of junior year I received 1 D. I explain in my special circumstances letter on the commonapp that this is partially because of family issues I was dealing with after my uncle's early death from prostate cancer. But it is what it is. This semester I have a 3.86/4.6 and I talked to admissions counselors at Syracuse who told me that they would review my first semester of senior grades)</p>

SAT II:
Math II - 660 German with Listening - 490 (i managed to screw up my scantron during the listening session...which did wonders for me doing horribly ahaha)</p>

Art and German student of the year at my high school 2 years in a row</p>

<p>will have a very strong letter of rec from a former law school prof who now teaches at my high school and i have known for 3 years
had a strong interview at syracuse, i think
let's assume, for the sake of chances, that my portfolio is accepted to these schools and that the primary issue is my academics</p>

<p>thanks. i figure my biggest problem is definitely in my GPA, but my special circumstances will, i think, help explain them quite a bit. maybe not enough. we’ll see.</p>

<p>hey I agree with Polysophy, though I think you are in the running! Hopefully you did a decent job of explainng the circumstances and how they affected your performance.

<p>thanks for the input guys! and yeah, puggly123, i’m applying to a few safety schools as well, but i expect them to be easy-ins: University of Colorado (calculated my score on their acceptance grid and it says i’m well into the generally accepted group), Carthage College (practically was told I would be offered a full tuition or 80% scholarship), and Winona State University.</p>

<p>god i hate college confidential for so many reasons, but one is for the unrealistically high standards that kids hold other kids to. </p>

<p>BU- the only reason i would call this a “low reach” for you is because they require 2 SAT 2s if i’m not mistaken. However, i would hope that the number of APs, as well as your ECs, would be able to cancel that out. Low reach/ High Match</p>

<p>You have a very good chance at Syracuse. Your GPA is low, but it’s not bad enough to make any of those schools reject you. Do you have affirmative action on your side? (I heard Syracuse considers your race somewhat more than some schools) I know a bunch of people who go to American, you will easily get in.</p>
