Chances, I'm really really nervous

Hi

I'm a white caucasion male
SAT: 1410 740M 670V
SATII: 790 PHYS 770 MAT IIC 670 WRIT
AP:
BC Calc 5 (sophomore year)
Phys C Mech 5
Phys C E&M 5 (junior year)

at New England boarding school
in top 10% of class of 200

senior year courses
Math Tutorial - Linear Algebra
AP Econ : Micro and Macro
AP Chem
English
AP Stats

ECs;
Varsity Basketball 3 years
varsity football 2 years
Discipline Committee
Math Team

I am strongest in math, I am in an exclusive class two years beyond calculus. My bad SAT math scores are a result of the fact that I took that material so long ago and forget it. My college advisor says that that score should not hurt me because of my AP score.

Applying to:
MIT - deferred early
Duke- engineering
Dartmouth
Brown
Cornell - Arts and Sciences
Johns Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon - Carnegie Institue of Technology

and some safeties

I would really appreciate any feedback,

Thanks Alot

Shouldn't you remember basic geometry and algebra if you're doing such advanced math classes?

no I know a kid who got a 5 on the calc test but only got 700 on SAT math, you don't use a lot of that stuff in advanced calc

oops sorry forgot chances, truth is I don't really know especially since I don't see your GPA anywhere so I'll pretend it is solid, but here's a shot in the dark:
MIT super reach
Duke reach
dartmouth reach but less than previous two
Brown reach
you have more of a shot at the last three but none of your schools could be considered safeties or matches for anyone, admissions are unpredictable. You do have a shot at all of them except maybe MIT.

Thanks,

anyone else

btw, my class average is a 92, most kids in my school get around an 87.

I was deferred as well from MIT. White male caucasians have it hard man.

Seriously the admit rate for our creed has to be around 5% at these elite colleges.

No kidding,
Soon we'll be getting affirmative action to MIT

u should shoot ur mother for being white... lol just kidding man. i think its even harder to get in being asian and all

I dont know what these "reach" people are talking about..your stats look stellar to me

well at least someone has faith

anyone else?

MIT - crapshoot, and although they look past #s a lot, they really want to emphasize writing / english...your writing and SAT english score will hurt
Duke- engineering -- better than above
Dartmouth -- better than above
Brown -- same as above
Cornell - Arts and Sciences --pretty good
Johns Hopkins -- see brown
Carnegie Mellon - Carnegie Institue of Technology -- looks good.

alright!
but you please be more specific as to actual chances instead of comparisons
thanks

I don't know about MIT, but I think you have a fair shot at the others, as long as you emphasized your extracurriculars. I just mean, there are lots of kids who really like math, but less who are committed to (say) sports as well.

Duke- slight Reach
Dartmouth- Reach
MIT- Reach
Brown- Reach
Cornell- Slight Reach/50-50
John Hopkins- Possible Foundation
Carnegie Mellon University- Foundation

Note, just because a school is a reach does not mean that you will not get in. You never know.

thanks

anyone else?

yeah I want to be clear with what I meant by "reach" it isn't that I think you won't get in it is just that the admissions seem so random sometimes and I was trying to be honest. You do have amazing stats and I feel confident that you will get in to at least a couple. My guess is Carnegie Mellon and JHU. Good Luck!

actually I think you'll probably get into Cornell too, you are more well rounded than I originally saw. I hope you emphasized your ecs.
