Chances? (international student)

senior high school student from Romania, applying ED II

GPA: 9.61/10
rank: no idea
SATs: 780 reading, 770 math, 680 writing
760 physics, 780 math II, 730 math I
iBT TOEFL 111/120

good recommendations, not sure about the essay though (the idea is pretty good, but my writing skills are not exactly stellar)
participated in many national competitions in computer science and mathematics, and did pretty well (top ten usually)
member of the drawing and painting club
participated in various volunteer activities organised by the school(such as visits to the kindergarden or the orphanage)

I'm kind of worried about my extracurricular activities (my lack of extracurricular activities to be more specific). How important are they actually?
Also, I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to submit some of my drawings even though I was planning on majoring in Cognitive Science/ Computer Science/Mathematics

I'm also applying for financial aid and I'm pretty sure that Vassar is not need blind.

You are correct. Vassar is not need-blind for International applicants.

“Q: Does applying for financial aid limit my chances of admission?
A: For all U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are applying for admission to the freshman class, Vassar adheres to a need-blind policy, which means that 100% of admission decisions for those candidates are made without regard to the student’s financial situation.”

To answer one of your other questions, if you have devoted a significant amount of time to your artwork, even if you don’t plan to major in art - then you should submit some with your application. (This is assuming you plan to make use of your talent in some way, shape or form while you are at Vassar.)

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

“This is assuming you plan to make use of your talent in some way, shape or form while you are at Vassar.”
Well, I do. :)

Well I’m applying to Vassar RD with lower scores than you, so I think you have a good chance. From Romania aswell :). Good luck

But that’s not really an argument, is it  ? Anyway, good luck to you too, maybe we’ll meet in NY.
