Okay, I'm a little worried. I live in Dubai and the system is a bit different here. NYU requires 3-4 years of history/social studies classes, but at my high school, they don't offer them. :S

Anyhow, heres some other info:

4.0 GPA

Rank: First in class

4 AP courses (Chem, Physics, Bio, Maths, English)

1 foreign language course (Arabic) for 4 years in school, 2 years private courses (Spanish)

High SAT, TOEFL and AP test scores

School President

Volunteer work at local hospital

Part-time volunteer jobs

Environment Club

(outside of school) Club Swim Team

Egyptian/Turkish/American ethnicity

Great writing skills

Lots of teacher recommendations

International Honor Society

Please, I really need to know! >.< Have a cookie!

Oh! I also was a transfer student in America for about 2 months, if that adds to anything...:/

You should be fine for getting in.

Are you sure? sigh of relief
I just thought that since I’m an international student and all…
But on the NYU site, it said that taking 4 years of History was a minimum requirement… Does this apply to international students? My school doesn’t offer History because AP subjects and mandatory. Can anyone help me with this particular point?

Thanks though :)

The thing is, NYU will take your courses in context. For a student in a school that offers history for four years, yes, it is required. As you attend an international school where it is not offered, they can not hold it against you.
If you are not a junior, I would suggest self studying and taking the apush ap test next year, so at least you demonstrate interest. If not, I would study over the summer, and attempt to take the history subject test.
otherwise, your app is fine, and you’ll have no issue whatsoever getting in.

Thank you so much. You have no idea how much of a relief that is to hear
I will consider taking history courses in the summer.
And, well, ahem I’m also a tad bit worried that I might be a victim of discrimination… :/

Well, like I said before, I live in Dubai, an Arab city. I am an American, but I am also muslim, and to an extent, covered. (I wear normal clothes, like jeans and such, it’s just that I cover my hair, arms, and legs.)

I know that it is definitely unavoidable, but do you think I could fit in well enough? And could this affect my acceptance in NYU? Sorry for the crappy question. I don’t really care for other people’s discriminative opinions, but it still bothers me. I mean, I guess it would bother anyone…

^.^"

I don’t have any personal experience at NYU, but most selective colleges seem to have less descrimination based on race, etc. just because it’s students are intelligent and well educated. I don’t think you should have a problem. I would still ask someone who as attended NYU, however, because like I said I’m not sure aboutthat school specifically.

I see… Well, if I do end up going there crosses fingers , whatever happens happens! I’m not TOO worried about it I mean, but well, you know. Thank you for your insight. I feel a lot better about it though…

Sorry for back-to-back posting… ^.^" I’d still like more opinions on this matter… if you could… hands cookie to you

youll make it to the candidate weekend for sure, because ive seen people do it with leess impressive stats (and NYU is a lot about numbers)

the fact that you are learning arabic might be really interesting for them, if you are applying to NYU abu dabi

the only problem I see are the weak extracuriculars, maybe make your writing skills sound like something even more interesting, maybe start writing short novels or something like that
