Okay so this is a bit long but please read!
Currently studying in an IB school as an international student from India, I have just passed my 11th grade and plan to pursue mechanical/electrical engineering abroad.
I scored a 92.2% in grade 10 and I rank in the top 6% of Grade 11 in my school, but my marks have not been great as it is a very rigorous school and also due to the following reasons:
Semester 1:
Coming from a state board (a totally different curriculum) I entered into grade 11 with loads and loads of extra-curriculars (which I undertook in the vacations) based on a very strong passion that I pursue for the betterment of society. Due to this sudden change in school-curriculums and time spent on extra-curriculars my grades were’nt top-notch in the beginning.
Physics HL - 4
Math HL - 5
Business Management HL - 6
Chemistry SL - 5
English SL - 6
French SL - 6
TOTAL = 32 out of 42. (roughly 3.4 unweighted GPA)
Semester 2:
I started concentrating on studies and managed my time efficiently because I knew that I was much better than this. I aimed for over 39 on 42 and my internal test grades were great (almost 6s and 7s in all tests) but I again took another big hit as unfortunately, just a week prior to my final year exams, my best friend passed away due to a high fall, which came as a huge shock to me. I tried very hard to maintain focus through all the sadness, deep messages from friends, multiple invitations from his house for final family rituals,
and in the end I did improve but not with what I expected.
Physics HL - 7
Math HL - 6
Business Management - 5
Chemistry SL - 6
English SL - 7
French SL - 5
TOTAL = 36 out of 42 (roughly 3.6 unweighted GPA)
I understand how important grade 11 is for a student, but now nothing can change the past and I know I can do better. Much better.
Hence my question,
If I still score a 35 or 36 on ACT
and over 750 on both Physics and Math Subject SATs
and get a great IB score of about 40+ in the 12th first semester (a 4.0 unweighted GPA)
and a great predicted IB final score of a 40+ from my teachers (who are aware that I am capable of achieving high!)…
Hence showing an upward trend
What are my admission chances into UIUC, UCLA, USC, UCB, Cornell, UOM ann arbour
or into any good college infact!
