Chances @ Michigan

Posted this in the University of Michigan forum, as well.

3.7 Michigan GPA (8 APs so far)
30 ACT (Retaking in October...did not prep)
Varsity/Club Swimming, Model UN (Leadership Position), NHS, Volunteer Work (Recreation Swimming, Hospital, Tutoring, Charity Events), Work as a Lifeguard

I am in-state...will apply in September. I should have good essays and recommendations.

I would say you have an awsome shot.

You're in state. Apply early and you're in.

Um...yeah.
Since you're instate, you are almost surely in. Since Michigan has rolling admissions, apply as early as possible.

if u apply early enough you will get in. OOS for state colleges are very hard to get in for some reason which i hate!

Since I live in michigan and Im only applying in state I like the idea.

The only way I see you not getting in is if you apply the day before the application is due and they have no room left to admit. Apply now, (I just downloaded the application yesterday), and I wouldn't worry about it.

Bump........

Everyone has the right idea, but I don't think it's quite a sure thing as the GPA is a bit low for Michigan. With that in mind, I'd advise a retake of the ACT, as a 32+ would solidify your odds quite a bit.

I'm not going to argue semantics over "what is the safe ACT score" but the Michigan ACT range is 27-31, so 30 seems sufficient. The thing about a school like Michigan is that they wouldn't reject you with a score like 30 unless you had terrible grades and no other desirable qualities. At Michigan, as well as at most competitive schools, your scores get you in the door, and the other content on the app does the rest. Suffice it to say, Central Perky is in good shape for UMich.
