My best friend just got a DUI and he's afraid that its going to affect his chances in containing college. He is a junior right now about to start his senior year and he thinks next year when he applies for financial aid, he is not going to get any money because he has DUI. Should he be worried?

I don’t think a DUI would affect his chances of getting into a college significantly unless they ask for any criminal history on the application. I’m not so sure about the financial aid though.

every college app i have encountered this year has asked for criminal history. They look like this.

Have you ever been arrested or convicted of a violation of any local, state, or federal law, other than a minor traffic violation?

Have you been arrested, convicted, or received an adjudication as a juvenile for a violation of any local, state or federal law, other than a minor traffic violation?

Are you currently on probation or suspension (academic or honor) at any high school, college or university?

Then they give you space to explain why if you answered yes to any of those questions.

Good luck. But from my experience with kids from my school, they got in to pretty decent schools with a criminal record. Not HYPSM but top state schools.

a junior and he already has a DUI? can’t be smart enough to get into any decent college anyway

wow that was highly insensible^^

Stewfoo , this is you. Stop trying to speak in the 3rd person, its obvious its you. “Your friend” shouldnt have done that. If he was smart, he wouldve thought twice before driving under the influence of a drug or alcohol. getting arrested was probably a great outcome, considering the potential manslaughter charges he couldve faced.
btw , HELLO COMMUNITY COLLEGE!
p.s. sucks to suck, you risked the lives of innocent people, you get screwed over

Yep you’re right it was me. Lmao.
