Chances of Admissions/Major decisions

I am currently about to apply to SDSU and was wondering what are my chances. SAT: 1240
GPA: 3.92 EL: 4376 (I think). I really want to apply as a Computer Science/Computer Engineering but I don’t think I meet the average. Should I apply as a different major so I can ensure I higher chance of getting accepted(if yes, what major)? Thank you!

Your stats are slightly below the averages but your within range so I would say you are a High Match to Match.

You can only pick one major so you either apply as a CS major or Computer Engineering major.

Both majors had around a 39% acceptance rate but CS had about 3 times as many applicants. If you are not sure which major, I would apply to Computer Engineering over CS.

Would my chances increase If I applied for a different major?

SDSU is an impacted campus so all majors are impacted and competitive. The average acceptance rate overall for the campus is around 32% so the 39% acceptance rate for CS or CPE is above average. Which other major(s) were considering? Also if CS/CPE are your top choices, check and see how difficult it is to change majors later.

You are also admitted as a Pre-major and must complete your pre-req courses with a specific GPA to move onto the upper division courses.

I heard it’s fairly easy changing your major once admitted no matter the specific college it is in. But if not CS/CPE I was thinking either Art - Graphic Design/Multi-media photography or some type of engineering.

Here is a link to SDSU’s admission information for 2019. You can calculate the acceptance rates of the majors of interest.

My daughter is applying to Weber Honors College so she is about to submit her Cal State application to SDSU. There is no option to select the Honors College on the Cal State App, so does it matter what major she picks?

Of course, she’ll complete the separate Weber Application later. The Cal State one is due in a few days though. Please advise! Thanks!

@Cdrp16: If you have a question, you need to start your own discussion. Hijacking another posters discussion is considered rude by CC standards.

I will answer your question in there is no option to select the Webers Honor College on the Cal state application. She just applies separately to the Honors college.

Apologies. Didn’t mean to hijack. Thanks for answering anyways.
