Computer engineering selectivity

My son is going to be applying to SDSU for fall 2019 admission and is interested in computer engineering. We are having a hard time finding information on how selective computer engineering admissions are. He has a CSU GPA of 4.23 and scored 1470 on his SAT, we live in Northern California. Any information that can be shared would be appreciated.

SDSU admits by eligibility index and major. 2018 admission data is not yet posted, but for 2017 the acceptance rate for Computer Engineering was around 40%.

SDSU will rank applicants based on their EI (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+EBRW) and major. They accept from the top down until all spots are filled.

Your son’s EI is 4854 is which is excellent and he should have no problem in getting an acceptance and will probably invited to apply for the Weber’s Honors college.

Since the Computer Engineering program is ABET accredited, SDSU is a great option for your son.

Thank you for replying with this information. I just read your reply to my son and he was very happy to hear what you relayed. We have been touring schools for the last few years and SDSU is his favorite campus. I originally thought he would be leaning towards the UC’s however after being on so many different campuses he was able to more clearly understand what he wants out of the college experience. I hope it all works out for him, we were very impressed with SDSU and would feel great about sending our son there.

My younger son just graduated from SDSU as a Computer Science major and for him it was a great school and a great college experience. Like your son, SDSU was definitely his favorite campus after visiting several times.

Best of luck to your son.
