Chances of an international applicant

Hi all,

I'm from South Africa (hopefully this will affect the decision in a positive way) applying RD. My stats:

SAT: 730M, 690V
SAT II: Verbal 760, Math 710, Chemistry 740
Rank: 8 of 230 (top 4%)
Teacher's rec: both quite good, math teacher said that I am one of the top 100 math students in the country
Grades: Straight A's and one B, usually
Numerous academic scholarships and academic honor over the years. Leadership roles in theatrical productions (awarded highest honor for service to drama), over 400 hours of community service, environmental committee, Chinese Student Academic Award.

I hope my application will not be compared with American applicants because i understand that American students tend to involve themselves deeply in extracurricular activities and programs. is the Wash. U in St. Louis looking for cultural diversity? If so then my application should be positively affected because I am Asian South African.

You will not be compared to Americans only with other internationals.
What is your first language?

Mandarin Chinese

But that doesn't mean I will be compared to other Chinese applicants because the education system here in SA is different.

No you will be compared to all international (Chinese and myself included).

Yeah but because there are always so many applicants from China the Chinese pool is competitive. But I'm not applying from there so hopefully they won't just group me with all the other Chinese peeps...but I wouldn't know. You applying to Univ. Rochester as well?

Not applaying to UR. I was going to but i found out that they dont give fin aid to intels.
You will not be put in the same group with Chinese, also if there are not so much South African applicants your chances will go up cause they are always searching for diversity

How are your stats?
