Chances of becoming a Buckeye

Ohio State is my dream school and I was wondering if you guys would give me your honest opinion on my chances

I am junior, Hispanic, in the band program of a local columbus hs. I am part of my high schools chapter of The national honor society, am in the soccer team and have participated in Ohio model UN and plan to again next year. I am also in the top ten percent of my high school

I took 2 high school honors classes and spanish in the 8th grade and all honors core classes so far my high school career

I am currently taking a PSEO class at a local community college

My current classes are AP gov, honors chemistry, honors pre calc and honors english 4 along with band and spanish 4

Unfortunately I did learn to apply as much as I could until my sophomore year...

I have a 3.7 weighted and a 3.25 unweighted gpa not counting my junior year and got a 23 on my first ACT which I irresponsibly did not study for.

I am confident I can raise my UW GPA to at least a 3.5 and can raise my ACT to at least a 28

My brother got into ohio state with a 3.3 and a 24-25 act but that was in 09...

For better or worse ohio state has raised its standards but my brother says my minority status will give me an advantage...

As of right now I am not confident of my chances...

Keep taking the ACT until you get it up to about 27 or 28. Then you will be a slam dunk. Right now, you will have a hard time. The GPA is not as much of a problem as the ACT score. You might also consider taking the SAT. Some people are better at one test than the other. Maybe the SAT will make you look better.

I agree with trying the SAT because, while it is “trickier” than the ACT it is supposed to be less of a time crunch. I’m not as sanguine on the 27 making you a slam dunk. That’s still at the 25%ile for tOSU. And ethnic status is only considered. http://oaa.osu.edu/irp/publisher_surveys/IRP_2014_Survey_Main.pdf
