im a texas resident

I think your SAT scores look low for engineering.

ya scores are very low. Based on your GPA/rank, you are clearly very smart so what happened man? Test anxiety? Maybe try the ACT some ppl find it easier

It doesn’t make any sense to me. If you are not fooling with us then I honestly hope they don’t accept you into Cockrell for your own good.

How about this one:

ACT composite of 28
English 28
Math 31
Reading 21
Science 31
Combined English/Writing 26

gpa of 95.7
top 20% (my school is very acedmically competitive so they do not send class rank along with my transcript)

My ACT score was 29, top 4%
I got accepted literally 5 days after i applied, which i thought was really unusual!

SAT scores:
math:700
reading:580
writing:460

class rank: top 14%

GPA:3.9

and i have a good amount of AP and dual high school classes, but never pre-ap.

would someone please give me some odds on getting in?

it’s killing me wanting to know, i feel confident on getting into UT but i dont know about the engineering program.

I’m afraid your SAT scores and your class rank are going to hurt your chances.

It really depends on what engineering you want to do. I applied to EE with a 2010 SAT, top 10.8%, AP Scholar, and Varsity Tennis and I was accepted. My friend got a 1980 SAT, he wasn’t top 8%, football, soccer, and he was accepted into EE. We’re both in-state too by the way. Mech E and EE are the two biggest programs in Cockrell by far so the standards are def slightly lower.

jp’s SAT score adds up to 1740, though - a good bit lower than even 1980. You never know, though - it’s always worth a shot! jp could always start out in a different school, then work really hard and try to transfer into engineering.

thank y’all for your answers, i’ll retake the SAT and acutally study for it this time, that should get me another 150-250 points for my SAT score.
my rank will go up after my first senior year semester(maybe to the top 10%) and i’ll send that in to them.
after that i’ll feel more confident.

use silverturtle’s method

thanks bro, i’ll look it up tonight.

Hey Guys, i was just wondering if someone could predict whether or not i could get into honors chem engineering? I have a 2140 SAT 780 Math & Writing, 580 CR - i realize its dead awful, im just unable to improve it, any tips? Im 20/864 (2.3%), lots of EC’s, Engineering Summer camp and interning at a natural gas treating company, quite a few academic awards, 3rd in state at robitics, 60k Scholarship to Rensselaer, i made my own thread but no one seems to want to reply lol, check it out if you want, it has all my stats.

Thanks and plz reply!

jurassicpark, good luck on your test retake efforts–it will pay off if you put some effort into it! Note, on updating rank, UT has changed their policy effective this year. See below:

Reporting Rank: The Office of Admissions will consider the rank that a student has submitted by the December 1 deadline when making admission decisions. (Applicants to summer/fall 2011 could submit updated rank after the deadline if their applications were complete by the deadline.) [Updates & Changes | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/counselors/hs/updates)

Remember, even though there are some parts of your app you can do little to improve now, you can positively shine through a well-crafted expanded resume, killer essays and strong recommendation letters. Admission officers are human. If you they get to know and like you through your writing, and adults are standing up for you, they will be motivated to find just the right place for you at UT. Sometimes, if you don’t quite cut it for your first choice college, they’ll be rooting for you to get your second choice. So be sure to make a wise second choice, just in case!

Good luck, and hook 'em!

What are my chances of being admitted to Cockrell School Of Engineering? Let’s assume I would be applying with a rank ranging anywhere from top 9% to top 11%. I would like to pursue a major in biomedical engineering (and continue to med school after).
I feel very passionate about going to UT as it is my dream school! I already have strong letter recomendations, however I feel I can’t compete with other students. Please judge on my chances or suggestions for improvements. I am applying normal decision before dec 1. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
