I am struggling to ease my mind with the chances of me being admitted, as a transfer student, to W&L. I applied there as a high school senior and was declined from early decision. I am currently at a university near the prestige of W&L and was able to achieve a 3.2 GPA during my first semester of college. I am looking to transfer in the fall 2018 term but I am worried about my chances. I have some affiliation with the program as my great uncle went there and my history with heavy basketball recruitment.
High school stats:
GPA: 4.37
ACT: 25
Varsity basketball captain
Numerous volunteer hours
(Most of this stuff they already received from my high school application)
College stats:
3.2 GPA
Varsity basketball
Member of the Pre health society
Member of the Honors College
Can someone give me insight with my chances of being admitted as a transfer student to Washington and Lee University?
You were declined there in high school for a reason, and probably your low ACT score played a big role. Had you redeemed yourself with high grades in college things might have been different, but a 3.2 isn’t exactly a redemption…
I’m aware. This semester will go very differently as I was easing into my college routine between basketball, school, and the social life. Hopefully I can pull my gpa up to a 3.6…
Be in contact with the basketball coach like bees on honey! If he wants you badly enough, your’e in! Otherwise, with your stats, I would say it would be a BIG uphill battle unless:
- Someone in your family has given some major $$ or
- Refer back to #1.
I cannot offer any reasonable guess as to your chances. But I do suggest that you examine why you want W&L so much & what would be different from your current university (such as majors offered, social culture, location, ability to play varsity basketball).
This, in turn, may lead to other colleges & universities that you should consider.
Asheswillfly,
I am a current W&L undergrad – I was not a transfer, but I know several guys who transferred and they had slightly higher GPA’s, but nothing too far from yours (3.3 or 3.4). Your resume is solid, except for the ACT score.
I wouldn’t bet on getting admitted.
The admissions rate was only 10% last cycle with 7/46 Men admitted. Therefore, chances aren’t great but it’s always worth an attempt
