Chances of being admitted to the United States Naval Academy

I am in 10th grade and I have decided to apply to the United States Naval Academy. I have visited the Academy twice and I feel that it is the school for me. I have a gpa of about a 3.7 (92) and am trying the best I can in my community to do as much volunteering as possible; I make sandwiches for the homeless at my local church every sunday and will attend some hi hi meetings. I play soccer and baseball for my high school and am on track for varsity in both sports next year. Furthermore, I am a lab assistant for my science teacher and work with her before school and during my lunch period and receive minimum wage. Also, I am training to be a lifeguard and taking the course now. Next year I will be taking the SAT and the ACT, I know that those grades are critical for this academy so I am vigorously studying for those and getting ready. I also am in honors ss, honors English, doubling up with Geometry and Alg 2 trig, in Earth science, and in honors spanish.

You have not stated what you’re interested in majoring in, but the Naval Academy is doing their best to promote engineering degrees and the like. In regards to scores, while they still need be high, the academies are not as particular as the Ivies, looking more for leadership potential. You should look for positions of leadership within and outside of your school.
Additionally, you should look into getting your elected representatives’ endorsement, as it is a prerequisite. If you’re in Maryland or Virginia, the competition will be more fierce because of the sheer number of local applicants that the Naval Academy gets.

yeah i hope to get an engineering degree. I live in new york

I suggest that you apply to the Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS). It’s a week long mini plebe summer experience in June of your junior year, which helped my son make his decision to mount the relatively grueling exercise of applying to a military academy. (Normal college apps are a piece of cake compared to the academy process.)

Check the USNA website for more application info. Good luck!

thanks, and yeah this summer im going to the stem camp and baseball camp there
