Chances of Dismissal Appeal

I was just dismissed from UCR - BCoE (Comp. Engr) and was wondering if I had any chance of successfully appealing. I was put on Academic Diff. during Winter 2011 and I didn't meet the requirements this quarter (failed one class again this quarter, Calc 9C).

I did really good on the midterms because I spent the quarter freaking out and studying a lot; however, things started getting progressively bad after week 6. A lot of these reasons are really private/emotional and some are financially related, I'd be okay with sharing with someone who could help with the appeal process but don't want to just post it online in the open. All of this boiled down to a nightmare finals week, 9C was my first final and I spent 3 days of studying for this and Phys 40B (mostly trying to, I was a nervous wreck and the more I freaked out the less I learned) and pulling all-nighters. I "slept" about 3-4 hours that whole week and didn't sleep at all the night before the final, which was at 8 am. Showed up to that final looking like a zombie and as I found out later completely bombed it, wasn't surprised since I spent half the exam trying to remember things and failing.

Anyone go through this? Or going through it?
Two questions on the appeals page:
"What is your plan to return to good standing? Include courses you plan to take and the grades needed to raise your GPA."

Should I say I plan on retaking the Math class I failed with 2 breadth courses so that I can improve my GPA? Or just that I intend to take a lighter load with classes like English/Hist/Econ for the same reason?

"Are you planning to continue with your major in BCOE? Please Explain"

Should I say that I plan on switching majors (I was already considering Econ, Business, and Environmental) or will this hurt my appeal?

Any and all help is welcome, sorry if I missed details and need to clarify (stressed/freaking out right now).

hey, sorry to hear that. shi* happens, right?
For the first question, I would put something like I will not be working, will be taking lighter workload, will manage my time better, will retake the math course and seek assistance as needed to successfully complete it, my sole focus will be on completing my classes sucessfully, and explain what had happened to you that quarter.

For the second question, I dont think you should switch, unless you find that the major is too challenging and you can no longer keep up. You should explain that you have learned your lesson (put in other words, though) and that you’re determined and dedicated to focus and do better. and that you’re passionate about the field and want another chance to continue to pursue your career.

Seeing as how I struggled (grade wise) with core classes would they be less likely to accept an appeal if I said I wanted to stick to the major? Or would saying that I wanted to switch to another college reduce chances more? The appeal is judged by the dean of BCoE, as much as I would like to stay in the major getting kicked out scares me more.

if ur really struggling, u should consider changing ur major… but don’t make it obvious that you’re just tryin to get back in… have a good reason for it. but if it’s cuz you had bad quarters, then i’d say explain urself well to them and give it another shot. afterall, it’s ur career.
