Chances of getting a job based on this:

I have an A.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University. I will receive a B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration (leaning towards accounting) in 16 months.

I have not worked while in college...I haven't had any internships. I've only had one full-time job (the year after I graduated high school) in a factory for a year. 2 part times jobs. One was at a hotel for like 4 months and the other is seasonal "firework store" jobs for my friend (paid $8/hr, not bad, for having a blast).

Since my degree is coming from an online school, Indiana Wesleyan University (a brick and mortar Christian University - regionally accredited), will it be hard for me to find a job in the Accounting field if I don't graduate until I'm 24? I started college at the age of 19, almost 20, and it's going to take me 5 years to finish. I have had some intestinal health issues, which is why I'm finishing my degree online. I guess first and foremost I need to get my health in order, but I'm worried my future won't look great because of the fact I 1. lack significant work experience (heck, any work experience), and 2. I am finishing my degree online...at a brick and mortar school, but still, I'm worried they'll realize it or something.

I'm trying to give you guys all the information you need to know so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not I'm "screwed."

Graduated high school in 2002.
From August 2002-August 2003 I worked in a factory to save money and because I wasn't sure what I was going to do.
August 2003-December 2005 attended Indiana University on campus.
January 2006-May 2006 started taking part-time classes because I was having really, really bad intestinal problems and was in and out of the hospital/doctor's offices. Tried to work, but had to quit because my health wouldn't allow it. (
August 2006 received my A.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University.
August-2006 - present taking classes online at Indiana University.
(Summer seasonal job working for a friend making $8/hr a few summers after high school, but nothing that gained me any experience, obviously).

I plan to start the B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration program at Indiana Wesleyan University in December 06 and it will take me until August 08 to finish.

Right now, I've had such a tough time finding a job. I'm not even sure if I "could" work, but I know I need to. I'm 22, and I'm not getting any younger.
Will I be "screwed" if I'm 24 with an A.S. in Business Administration from a brick and mortar school (actually went to) and a B.S. in Accounting from a brick and mortar (finished online) with no work experience?

What do you guys think?
I can't find internships; I can't find employment; I can't really find much of anything. I've tried to network with people, but that has always seemed to fall through.

Even places like Wal-Mart haven't hired me because of the fact I've been out of work for so long... I know I'm "only" 22...but then again, I'm 22 with 2 years left of school, not 20 with two lears left of school like most people. Yeah, certain issues have caused me to alter my plans, but I guess I'm just worried I'll be forever screwed because of the fact I've had some health issues (severe intestinal problems) and have no work experience.
granted_business is online now

Someone help this person.

lol, yes, please. I'm stressin' big time!

Plus, I might have to drop a class and get a "w" and I'm worried 1 "w" will screw me, too.

Plus, my dad just lost his job...Eh, it's been too stressful lately.

whoops, double post.

Sorry, but anyways, please help me out, please! I'm so stressed out lately.

Should I drop this class that I will either fail or get a D in and have a "W" on the transcript?

I transferred my credits over to Indiana Wes. (not this semester)... It was a total of 69 credits I transferred over... If I didn't even want to transfer over my classes from this semester (because they aren't even for my major.. i just needed online classes through IU to stay on insurance) would there be a way they would find out?

You seem incredibly negative - I am not criticizing, you seem to have had a tough time - but this very possibly is coming through when you apply for jobs. Also when you apply for these jobs are you mentioning your health problems? Are you sure you can work?
You are very worried about getting internships and experience - does your school have a career center that would help you with this? Otherwise right now you should just try for cashier or sales - as the holiday season approaches there should be lots of those jobs available. Go to the local mall and apply everywhere. You are taking classes online so you should be able to work anytime, right? This is a plus for you.

I wouldn't say I'm negative; I am, however, incredibly stressed out. I'm a positive person, but the stress of everything that's been going on has been getting to me.

It doesn't come across in interviews or on resumes, etc. I don't mention health problems. My goal is to be an accountant, and that is a job that I could do with my particular health issue. It's the type of jobs that are more manual labor that are harder for me to do...office type settings are the best for me.

I just started applying for more internships...I've applied at a few retail clothing stores to work as a replenisher or on the floor. I just had an interview with one of them and we'll see where that takes me. It pays crappy, but I'm looking for anything at this point. I really need to help my family out.

I wasn't stressed out about taking my classes online until I came here and read that "damning article on online degrees" that said you're pretty much s.o.l. if you do your classes online. Luckily, my campus is "real." I completed the majority of my ASBA on campus (95% of it). The Accounting Degree will be at a real university with probably 90% online and 10% on campus. I think learning an information based thing like accounting will make the "online" thing not really come into play after I graduate (and since my degree is from a real university, my transcript won't be screaming ONLINE ONLINE, DON'T HIRE).

Thanks, and I realize constructive criticism is important, so I don't care if people give me some... I appreciate your response.

I just found this site and thought some of the people on here could give some insight about my situation.

Do these goals seem reasonable?

My goal(s).

Finish my B.S. in Accounting Degree by August-Dec 2008 (69 credits completed so far).

Work a part-time job during seasons and during school (if possible).

Get at least 2 different internships before I graduate, possibly next year (after my junior year) when I have taken some upper-level accounting classes, during tax season.

Become an active participant in the Accounting Society on campus to network with students, faculty, and area employers.

I think if I can meet all of those goals, or at least the majority of them, that I'll have be in line to find a good job after I graduate in 2008. Do you agree?

Perhaps you can start your own business.
