Chances at finding a job with 2 degrees: 1. traditional. 2. online brick and mortar

I have an A.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University. I will receive a B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration (leaning towards accounting) in 16 months.

I have not worked while in college...I haven't had any internships. I've only had one full-time job (the year after I graduated high school) in a factory for a year. 2 part times jobs. One was at a hotel for like 4 months and the other is seasonal "firework store" jobs for my friend (paid $8/hr, not bad, for having a blast).

Since my degree is coming from an online school, Indiana Wesleyan University (a brick and mortar Christian University - regionally accredited), will it be hard for me to find a job in the Accounting field if I don't graduate until I'm 24? I started college at the age of 19, almost 20, and it's going to take me 5 years to finish. I have had some intestinal health issues, which is why I'm finishing my degree online. I guess first and foremost I need to get my health in order, but I'm worried my future won't look great because of the fact I 1. lack significant work experience (heck, any work experience), and 2. I am finishing my degree online...at a brick and mortar school, but still, I'm worried they'll realize it or something.

I'm trying to give you guys all the information you need to know so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not I'm "screwed."

Graduated high school in 2002.
From August 2002-August 2003 I worked in a factory to save money and because I wasn't sure what I was going to do.
August 2003-December 2005 attended Indiana University on campus.
January 2006-May 2006 started taking part-time classes because I was having really, really bad intestinal problems and was in and out of the hospital/doctor's offices. Tried to work, but had to quit because my health wouldn't allow it. (
August 2006 received my A.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University.
August-2006 - present taking classes online at Indiana University.
(Summer seasonal job working for a friend making $8/hr a few summers after high school, but nothing that gained me any experience, obviously).

I plan to start the B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration program at Indiana Wesleyan University in December 06 and it will take me until August 08 to finish.

Right now, I've had such a tough time finding a job. I'm not even sure if I "could" work, but I know I need to. I'm 22, and I'm not getting any younger.
Will I be "screwed" if I'm 24 with an A.S. in Business Administration from a brick and mortar school (actually went to) and a B.S. in Accounting from a brick and mortar (finished online) with no work experience?

What do you guys think?
I can't find internships; I can't find employment; I can't really find much of anything. I've tried to network with people, but that has always seemed to fall through.

Even places like Wal-Mart haven't hired me because of the fact I've been out of work for so long... I know I'm "only" 22...but then again, I'm 22 with 2 years left of school, not 20 with two lears left of school like most people. Yeah, certain issues have caused me to alter my plans, but I guess I'm just worried I'll be forever screwed because of the fact I've had some health issues (severe intestinal problems) and have no work experience.

Since you graduated from Indiana, you can still use their career office to get jobs, even though you left there.

Try to get a job in Indianapolis or Bloomington, and reapply to finish your last two years at either IUPUI or at Indiana University at Bloomington. Since you will soon be 23, fill out the FAFSA (financial aid form) and realize that the federal government will no longer consider your parent's income when determining how much financial aid you are entitled to). Take this aid and finish your last two years of school at these schools (which are much better known and have more prestige than an online Indiana Wesleyan school.) Also, during these two years, get good grades, because employers (and grad schools) care about this.

At Indiana University, when you are a junior, take the course entitled "Business Career Planning"--it is Business X420. It will teach you about getting a better job and planning for a long-term career.

P.S. My son is at Indiana University at Bloomington, so I'm a believer in the school and their programs.

Good luck.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I actually didn't go to their Bloomington campus; I went to their Ft. Wayne campus.

Also, due to "health" issues, I've "had" to take my classes online...so it's not a matter of just being able to pack up and go sit through 5 1-2 hour long lectures every week, if that makes sense. My symptoms haven't allowed that right now...

Indiana Wesleyan is a pretty respected Christian University. It's regionally accredited. They actually have a campus...it's a "real" college just like Indiana University...Indiana Wesleyan also offers the degrees online, too. You finish some of the classes online and then finish others at some of their other locations..(like their requirement for a Christian religion class, for example). So you actually have meetings, but since the primary courses are online, I'm capable of doing that, even with my health problems. Just like Indiana University has a location in Ft. Wayne, South Bend, Indianapolis, etc.; Indiana Wesleyan has a location in Ft. Wayne and other places, too, besides their main campus in Marion, Indiana. I like the Christian atmosphere, and they have been really accomodating to my needs so far....

I just am worried about my lack of experience and other things, too...

I don't know.

I wonder if my degree in Accounting will even matter based on the stuff I've said in the messages so far. Does anyone else have an opinion on the issue based on the stuff I've said?

anyone else?
