Chances of getting accepted with a D?

For first semester, I got a D+ in AP Calculus. I’m currently taking 4 AP classes, and I have straight A’s except for my D in Calculus. I’m scared with how that would affect my admissions? I still have a 3.8 GPA, but I’ve heard from many sources that a D is an automatic pull out. I’m involved in many extracuricular, and prior to this year I have had a 4.0. I feel like this semester, I’ll do extremely well because I’m getting integrals a lot more so I’m trying hard for an A. I also got a 1710 on my SAT. I applied to UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC San Diego, and UCLA. The only state I applied to was SDSU.

You need to have at least 3 years of A-G courses in math passed with a C or better. I can’t find specific information, but I think if you listed a course as in-progress when you applied, it needs to be passed with a C or better as well or you are in danger of being rescinded if accepted. Email the admissions office of each school to make sure, and ask if there is anything you can do to avoid being rescinded if accepted.

If those “many sources” are the kids you know at your HS, how could they possibly know this for a fact? Something they think happened to a guy that lived on the same block as their cousin?

That said, you need to do this

In fact the UC schools want to help kids get in, not keep them out. Contrary to what “many sources” have told you. For example Davis says

@swtiecakes: Be proactive and contact admissions at all the schools you have applied to see what you can do about the D+. Some will probably require you pass with a C or better 2nd semester and some may require you retake the class during the summer to keep any provisional admission. Do not wait until you are accepted and send in your final transcripts during July, only to find that you do not have any options to fall back on if you are rescinded.
