Chances of Getting in CMU

I have a 4.0 GPA, 2300 SAT. 780 on math and 780 on Bio SAT I did badly last year and got two C+s. But this year I have all A's in all classes. I have always been a good student until junior year because i got sick. But I have volunteered at the hospital, do piano, do tutoring for NHS, opened a club at my school and am the co-president for another club. I am applying early for CMU in December and I am doing an interview next month at the school to show interest. I have taken many APs - AP Bio, AP Calc BC, AP US History, AP Chemistry, AP French, AP Lit, AP Gov, and AP Stats. Last year I did four and this year I am doing three. I have done many post-AP's as well such as DNA Science 1 and 2 ( only my school offers these) and I got A's in both. I have very good teacher recs.

So what is your actual GPA, exactly? You can’t have a 4.0 with C+s… unless you mean weighted, which is damn low.

bkingston, what colleges are you applying to? HSS? SCS? MCS?

DNA Science has me thinking you’re headed for a bio/BME/chem route. You have good chances for HSS, MCS and CIT, and decent chances for SCS. You have little-to-no chance at CFA for obvious reasons unless you secretly paint oil-on-canvas at night. Tepper doesn’t really seem like it’s your goal either.

Euroazn, often high schools weight by plus/minus point. A C+ in an AP class could be as high as a 3.8. He could even have gotten C pluses in normal, unweighted courses and if he’s secured A’s in his AP courses it would balance out to a 4.0 easily. I know you come from some kind of insane military high school, but here in the rest of the world a 4.0 is a highly respectable GPA. :p

This “military” (only academically - little teaching, more like an AP factory) high school is gonna kill me -_-"

How do you have two C+'s and still have a 4.0?
I take all AP courses and I have 3 B’s and 3 A’s and I have a 3.6 :/

thats my weighted GPA. my school does not do unweighted. i think its about 3.4

^yeah, see that makes sense. A 3.4 is relatively low, I mean… it’s lower than my ****ty GPA of 3.6 lol. Your SAT’s are quite good and the fact that you’re early makes this a possibility, but definitely not a shoo-in.
