I'm a Junior in High School who really wants to go to NYU Steinhardt to major in Music Business. I've been involved with music for years and have a 3.7 cumulative GPA as of my sophomore year and based on my current grades it should go up to a 3.8. My SAT scores are around 1600, but i didn't skip any problems so those are expected to go up as well. I understand that i need to audition to get into this program so if anyone is currently in this program or has been, please give me any advice or the likeliness of me getting into NYU.

Is the gpa weighted or unweighted? That seems to be on track. Even though it’s 50% your talent, I’d say get those SATs up alot. Maybe take a class or get review books to study. I went up about 40 points my second time without preparation, and a lot of people go up more, but you want to get it to at least a 1900, because at least your audition can make up for a slight lack in the SATs.

I applied for this program. The woman I spoke to said that admissions was a 50/50 split between academics and talent. She also mentioned that the gpa & sat scores for steinhardt (and tisch) can sometimes be a little lower than they are for the other colleges because it’s not solely academic based, so obviously work hard on your academics and bringing up your sat score but if they are a tad bit lower than the averages for nyu you still do have a shot because of the music aspect to it.
no one could tell you your chances because your talent is a big part of it but academically i think you would have a shot.
good luck! :)
