Chances of getting in to McGill

Hi, I'm a Senior at Colchester High School, and I really need some people's opinions on my chances of getting into McGill.

I got a 30 on my second try on my ACT (E: 35, M: 29, R: 27, S: 30, Combined E/W: 27) and I am taking them one more time on October 23.

I've taken/am taking many rigorous courses, including AP American History, AP Physics, AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB. I have an A average in all of those classes.

My school GPA is a 4.110 and I'm in the Top Tenth percentile of my class.

Norwich University offered me a $12,000 scholarship to their School of Mathematics and Sciences.

I am currently President of the Medical Explorers club at my school and I have an internship with a cardiologist soon.

Extra things: I've been playing guitar for six years, I speak English, Arabic, and partial French, and I currently have 12 hours (I know it's not a lot... hoping for more soon) of community service

Although I live in Vermont, I was born in Montreal and have Canadian citizenship and residency.

Thanks for your time! (BTW, I know everyone's probably getting tired of chancing people. Haha sorry).

Your extracurriculars are irrelevant. Unless you post your AP scores, the only thing we have to go off of is the ACT, and it’s not high enough to say it’s a sure thing.

Norwich University…I was accepted two weeks ago. Did the scholarship package come in the acceptance package? I’m on the look out for a scholarship myself. Did you apply civilian or corps of cadets?

I didn’t apply to Norwich, nor am I planning on doing it. Norwich awarded me the $12,000 Norwich Scholarship to the School of Mathematics and Sciences on Underclassmen Awards Night, but in order for me to get the scholarship, I need to apply there.

I think your chances are pretty good. I was in a similar situation when I applied to McGill (about 8 years ago!), and I got in. Unfortunately/fortunately, they really only seem to care about your transcript and your SATs - there doesn’t seem to be much emphasis on extracurriculars and essays, etc. I was fourth in my class of about 100, and I got a 1310 on the old SATs. If you get in, the cheap tuition is amazing! Good luck!
