Also should I apply for early action or regular admission? Does it matter? Also my race is asian, does that play a roll?
You have a pretty good chance (70%) of getting in! Your SAT score is great - average is about 1900 and you have done a ton of community service, which is very important. You definitely have had some leadership positions, which is awesome, and will boost your application with your 3.4 gpa. Quality is more important than quantity! Your gpa is a bit low but your community service, Ecs, and community service are great which are the main factors they consider. Make sure to write a essay with a topic that is not cliche through which you can display a passion about something that is important to you and get great recommendation letters! Asians do make up a good amount of the student population! Apply early action because you will not only have a higher chance of getting accepted but will get considered for scholarships and special programs! Good luck!
I accepted for Fall 2015 and I’m sure you will too!
@Purple205 Thanks alot! Do you think I have a great chance of getting into the Scholar’s program there? Also does the major I choose play a factor of whether or not I’ll get accepted? Thanks for your help! I really want to go to UMD!
@indian098 no problem! I think you could possibly get into the scholars program! I think they look for well rounded students with a lot of community service and good sat scores. Some majors (LEPs) are more competitive so make sure you have some good community service/extracurricular experiences to further your interest in the major. for ex being in a medical club or taking a lot of science ap classes could help you get into the biology major.
More info on more competitive majors:

@indian098 just FYI: you must apply by the Nov. 1 deadline to be considered for the Honors/Scholars programs and for much of the available scholarship money (this is not “early decision”; you still have until May 1st to make your choice).
There are a lot of threads here on CC about the UMD Nov 1 deadline, or see
http://www.admissions.umd.edu/apply/FreshmanApplicationDeadlines.php
“Apply by November 1 to receive best consideration for admission to the University of Maryland.”
AP Organic Chemistry? —I didn’t know there was such a beast.
@indian098 90% of admissions are given to applicants who applied by the priority deadline.
@QuantumGuy7 @indian098 I think the early action acceptance rate is 54% compared to the 47% acceptance rate for people who apply for regular decision. There’s no way it’s 90% lol
@Purple205 that’s not what quantum is saying. Quantum is stating that the majority of available seats (90%) are filled with the priority deadline applicants, leaving very few spots for regular application candidates.

Sorry, not 90% of admissions, but 90% of the accepted freshmen who come to Maryland applied by the priority deadline–though I don’t know if they’re the same thing. It could be that 60%–or whatever it is–of admissions were priority applicants that really wanted to attend umd, but regulars had other first choices, so a lot of the accepted regular applicants went to other universities. If they are the same thing, then I think what @KonstantinLevin is saying would be correct.
@QuantumGuy7 yes I think that most freshman apply by the priority deadline but they only accept 60% of the people
