I am currently a high school student in a top ranking high school in Pennsylvania. I hope to apply to Emory. My freshman year gpa was a 4.3 out of a 5.0 weighted gpa and my sophmore gpa is around a 4.5-4.6 out of a 5.0. So far i have 2 varsity letters and around 230 community service hours. I am taking 4 ap classes junior year and 4 more senior year. I hope to have 4-6 varsity letters by then. I also am in 3 different clubs. What do you think i should be aiming for in terms of gpa for the next two years and how do my chances look? I also have legacy

@yaor123. I would wait until you have your AP scores, SAT scores, and maybe some SATII scores. I would also like to know the unweighted GPA. It appears you are on the right track provided the unweighted GPA is still very solid. Also, if you have any outstanding ECs, let us know. Many Emory applicants will have a ridiculous amount of community service hours (much alone just coming from NHS) and high GPAs. Emory applicants also participate in many clubs, it depends on the position in them or your attachment to them (and thus your ability to write about or discuss any one of them). Basically, you should just wait. Unless your SAT scores end up in the 75% (or well above the projected median of of admits which is about 1410ish/1600), you may end up looking only as good as a normal middle-50 falling applicant. The legacy may help some though.

Legacy will help, but we can’t tell you anything until you have an SAT score. Shoot for a minimum 1300/1600. Also, give some thought on whether you’re interested in Oxford–it’s free to apply to both and you’ll get separate admissions decisions. You may find you like the Oxford experience better. If you do well on the SAT, you may be able to get some merit money there too.

always aim for the best.
