Chances of getting in?

Sorry I know these messages must get annoying, but if you have a chance to read this and give me some feedback, that would be great! I'm very interested in attending IU next fall, and I'm wondering if I have a good chance of getting in.

I'm going to be a high school senior
Female (White) from out of state

GPA: 3.61 uw 3.89w
School doesn't provide class rank
ACT Composite: 30
English: 31
Math: 27
Reading: 34
Science: 27
Writing: 08

Extra-cirriculars and Activites:
JV Swimming--4 years
JV Track and Field--1 year
Varsity Rugby--2 years

Student Council--"member at large" for 4 years
Yearbook--3 years (possible editor this year)
National Honor Society--1 year
Service Program at my school--4 years
School Newspaper--layout editor 2 years

I've had a job since the beginning of my sophomore year (10-15 hours a week)
I'm also involved with my church and lots of service hours (75+)

Any other information I should provide?
Any recommendations for things I should do to increase my chances?

Thanks so much!

Oh and I forgot to mention my classes

6 Honors Classes–1 more during senior year
1 AP class–3 more senior year

3 years of English (all honors)
3 years of Math (AP senior year)
3 years of Science (1 year of honors)
3 years of Social Studies (2 years of honors, 1 AP)
3 years of Foreign Language (1 year of honors–senior year)
–I’m scheduled to take a 4th year in all of these subject areas, as well.

I think you’re golden. You can always try and improve your GPA this coming semester, and it doesn’t hurt to try and take the ACT one more time. Besides that, I think you’re in!

You can start buying IU apparel now, because you are 100% ** IN. **

Not only will you get accepted, but you will also get the IU Prestige scholarship worth $4,000/yr because you have over a 3.6 and atleast a 27 ACT.

You are smooth sailing and have nothing to worry about.

You really should have no problems getting in… there really is nothing necessary at all to boost your chances.

Loon, that’s the scholarship I would’ve thought the OP would have got, since the IU website ([Automatic Academic Scholarships: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington](http://www.scholarships.indiana.edu/scholarships/automatic/index.php)) says the GPA used for Auto Academic Sholarships is out of 4.0. However, here (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/971084-i-need-chances.html?highlight=trier</a>) I was told they use whatever the high school says them.

So make sure to have your high school send your weighted GPA, its a $20,000 difference.

And don’t start buying IU apparel, because you get plenty of free stuff :D

All,

I think that OP should get $36K over 4 years based upon the following:

IU Distinction - $36,000 ($9,000 per year)
The IU Distinction Scholarship is awarded to the best and brightest out-of-state students who meet each of the following criteria:

Out-of-state student (domestic and international) Minimum SAT score of 1340 or minimum ACT score of 30 Minimum GPA of 3.80 on a 4.0 scale

[Automatic Academic Scholarships: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington](http://www.scholarships.indiana.edu/scholarships/automatic/index.php)

Beware…these awards levels have been steadily creeping up. So don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched BUT…probably at least one award or the other. Until/unless IU finally “catches on” that everyone adds weight SO differently…so their GPA requirement really doesn’t mean much.

You are totally right, she should get the $9,000/yr one.

R124687,

Yes, they will need to adopt the Purdue method and factor in the class rank and Honor/AP courses taken. The 2011 applicants probably wouldn’t worry about or cheer for it anymore. ;)
