Chances of Getting Into Andover?

By avg SSAT score, I was addressing the person w the 52% score, not the 90% score.

@GMT: Same person, apparently.

90% was the practice test results. They do not award FA to the highest test scores. If football is your hook, as long as everything else looks good, you will be fine. The test scores are the least important part of the process despite the obsession with them on this board. You only took the test once which sends the sign that you are not one of the over prepped students trying to manipulate the system

Playing football helps a lot. It’s important to keep in touch with the coaches, as you want them on your side. With all these schools attracting very, very intelligent kids, anytime a truly capable athlete expresses interest the athletic department usually gets pretty excited. I don’t understand your comment about “been in JV for 3 years and last year I FINALLY got into varsity(only one in the 7th grade)” though. You’re saying you have made your Junior Varsity team since third grade…? And what high school allows 7th graders to play varsity sports at all? You can only play four seasons of a single sport at any high school, so why would they let you play in 7th grade and miss having you for your Junior and Senior year? Please clarify that haha. You sound like quite an interesting applicant, and have a shot everywhere. The fact that you didn’t play football this year will hurt you, however. Applications and interviews are rough, but taking time off from a sport reveals that you may not be able to juggle activities well enough for the top tier boarding schools. Good luck! Maybe someday we’ll be playing with or against each other!

@paintballknee , I could see how this could be confusing lol. I have been playing on Pop Warner since 3rd grade. Then when I hit 6th grade my school started a junior football league with other schools in my town with jv and varsity , so i joined that instead of pop Warner and i made my schools varsity team with all the other 8th graders at my school. And I did mention i didn’t play to all my interviews and they didn’t seemed to bothered by that.

Haha alright, that makes more sense. That’s good that they didn’t seem to care, but it may be a point of interest if they examine your application scrupulously. Have you talked to any of the coaches?

Yup, they really seemed to like me there. The coach was really surprised when I told him I was a straight A student also so I don’t know if that’s a plus? Same thing happened at Exeter also.

Most other schools just seemed pleased that I was actually intelligent :)

im sorry sorif but for such a competitive school as andover, those SSAT scores are really not going to make the cut unless you have family connections, are a URM, fantastic ECS, star athlete, will pay in full, and have reccomendations for teachers, that score will drastically affect your chances, sorry to bring the bad news.

@enthusiasm,
I’m already certain that my chances for ANY school are low, let alone Andover and Exeter. From what I’ve seen from past post of years people with my scores and lower have gotten in to a HADES school and I personally think I can do it. I am Sierra Leonean ( small african country) but I moved here when I was 6 and I’m pretty confident in my overall application. :)
