Is McCombs program (not honors) better than say..Kenan, Haas, Ross, UVA program? Those are the other programs that I'm also considering.

What are my chances of getting into McCombs (regular) and BHP?

You can definitely get into McCombs. It's the top accounting school in the country, and it's #6 in finance (which is what most people do). Overall, I think it's about the #9 business school in the country.

Haas, Ross, and UVA are proabably higher ranked though. However, UT's BHP sticks out a lot, beyond just normal McCombs students. UT gets a lot of recruiting from a few BB firms, like Goldman, Lehman, and Merrill. They are also really good with the Big 4 in accounting. Lastly, consulting firms like McKinsey, and BCG (and to a lesser extent, Bain) also recruit a fair amount here. What field of business are you interested in?

If you don't get into BHP as a freshman, I've heard that transferring in isn't terribly difficult. You just need to maintain a high GPA (3.9+, which isn't too hard, since UT doesn't use +/- grading, yet), and have some good professor reccomendations. I've heard that the acceptance rate is very high for BHP transfers. Anyways, I'd say you have a good shot for BHP out of freshman admissions anyways.

transferring into BHP as a sohphomore is HARD!!! try your best to get in as a freshman...I just got in as a sophomore, and anyone will tell you its harder. Ur GPA is good, SAT is fine, but rank could be better. your leadership looks gud and thats a major part of getting in...you have a pretty decent shot at getting in.

From what Ive heard, I would not expect to get into BHP, since only around 2% come from out of state (it is very very competitive for out of state). That means around 3 people each year as freshman.

Myrmidon, I'm looking at finance/ marketing right now. Which b-schools are stronger in either one of those majors? thanx for the replies guys.
