Update on the Global Awareness Club.
I have expanded the global awareness club into the Global Awareness Society. It has the same ideas, same goals and objectives but with far greater boundaries. Instead of being limited to just in school, I have expanded it to all of my county. People from various schools gather occasionally once in a while at the library to reach our goals. I though I might add that in this so it might help you guys have a better idea how passionate I am for this cause!

bumpppppppppppp

how can you be taking an HL this year?
my school doesn’t let you do that.

and i regret to inform you that you will likely get very little in college credit with your IBs.

however, you’re as competitive a candidate as you can be. that’s the best thing you can hope for

IBfootballer, History of the Americas HL, English IB HL, and Biology HL are all 2 year courses. I’m taking the first half this year and the second half my senior year.

And i’m not too worried about college credit and stuff. I just care about admissions. I heard that IB credits only count toward placement. I also heard that Brown doesn’t even accept IB as credit so it’s no big deal.

How do you post links in your responses? Can you help me out here future-Brown University-buddy?

go to your thread. Copy the URL. Paste the URL onto your responses and when you click send, It should come out to be a link.

You can’t do IB Bio, physics, english, or history at “the higher level” while a junior…

I say Brown is, as for anyone, a reach for you. You don’t really stand out, not mentioning you are an over-represented minority in an over-represented geographical area. And your ECs seem very scattered.

i think you have a great chance of getting in. i think that you have as good of a chance as anyone. i think if you write some good essays and do the interview, you will get in.

poseidenj, I’m not doing HL Physics. And the HL that I am in right now are 2 year courses. I’m doing the first half this year. Maybe it is different for every school but I know I’m doing the first half of HL right now. Also, if I don’t stand out, what do you think I can do to make myself stand out? Just wondering if you have any tips.

What you are taking right now is SL, as a senior they become HL classes.

As for standing out, immedietly just looking at this (not the essay or reccs mind you) you seem like the type of person who does something purely for the sake of stacking your resume. Just…be yourself, and be passionate.

The Junior English, US History, and Bio are all within the realm of “standard learning” in the IB curriculum, they do connect to the HL part of those classes, but they are not HLs in themselves.

Poseidonj, Yeah that makes sense about the SL and HL. I you’re right about that.
But you’re absolutely wrong when you say I do those ECs just to stand out. I have this really long story behind all of it that I will explain to colleges in my application. The Global Awareness Society and the Humanitarian activities that I do are huge passions of mine because I was destined to be one of the people suffering in those nations. However, I sort of “cheated” my own destiny and now I have this calling that I need to do something to help that that were not as fortunate as me. I may have relatives right now in North Korea, but I can not be sure because they might not be living today due to the hostile government. I really wish you didn’t say the same ignorant things to everyone with ECs because it’s really offensive to the people that devote their lives to it. But I understand completely why you would said that.

You do have a very impressive resume; however, I think that you have too many extra-curricular activities. They will see right through this and may dislike your extreme breadth of involvement, and may question the true depth in each of those activities. I am a Junior in High School as well, and there is simply no sane way of doing ALL of those activities.

I would suggest telling them about half the things you have actually done to look more like a real individual. Ivies do not want seeming robots on their campuses.

bigjay71, I couldn’t agree more.
I’m only going to put the things that I am truly passionate for and the club/organizations that I have a leadership position in.

Atta boy. I’m actually looking at some of the same schools you’re looking and live in the NY Metro area. EC’s definitely play a huge role in admissions, but can backfire as I said.

Word? That’s sick. I live in the NY Metro area also.
Yeah EC’s can either make or break you. That’s why you gotta be smart in choosing which ones =]

Fearnoevil, it seems like we will be applying against one another. :(

We both put up the same chance thread! Nonetheless, I think you have a great shot at Brown! I don’t think you have too many extra-curriculars because the extra-curriculars that you are in, you have leadership roles in.

Good luck to you and I hope you get the internship with our senator!!!

Uh oh, I sense tension. Haha jk. Yeah, I hope we can see each other at Brown someday!
Thanks for the advice, but I think I really have to cut down on that EC list. Haha

Good luck to you too! And thanks for your wishes.

you’re looking great for brown don’t worry about it :)

also looking good for the other schools u listed
