So does doing good on the interview effect my chances
That’s quite controversial. You may have thought your interview went well, but the interviewer may have a different opinion. But yes, of course having a good interview positively impacts your chances!
I think you are a good candidate, but don’t be fooled by interviewers, esp alumni ones. In our case, we had adcoms telling my kids at Deerfield they were shoe-in’s sending them Christmas cards with handwritten notes asking them to please consider Deerfield, only to get rejected, later saying that the rec letters were not as competitive as other students. Protect yourself. Love the school that ultimately loves you and sends you that admit letter–and not until!
@Shouvik - Breathe.
All BS AOs and Alum Reps send notes to candidates ( handwritten or via email ) after interviews, so please don’t read ANYTHING into it. It’s tradition, plus it’s a lovely way to thank kids for their interest and encourage them to apply. Hopefully, you sent a nice email back thanking them for their time.
FYI- Did you know that most boarding schools save/copy/scan handwritten thank- you notes and thank -you note emails and place them in the applicant’s folder? It’s a very small piece overall but it is typically included for the team reviewing the app to read , which I think is very cool. Anyway…
After an off- campus or Skype interview, an Alum Rep fills out paperwork and then submits it to admissions where it is read and (again) placed in the applicant’s file. Sometimes the AO, or team member ( faculty/ coach ) calls/ emails the Rep for further insight, or if they have a question during February/ early March … sometimes not. Alum Reps generally find out if one of “their kids” gets in after A10. It’s then when they are often asked to write a Congratulations and Welcome note to the student and their family… that is, if the candidate decides to attend. Every school has it’s own traditions but that’s basically the role of a BS Alum Rep working with Admissions.
In other words, the Admission Teams at each BS ( NOT the Alum Reps ) make the final decision on each candidate. Hope that helps take away some of the mystery…
I’m sure you’re an impressive kid and all the compliments you’ve received ( from Deerfield last month and the other two today ) are truly genuine and well-deserved, but please know that completed apps are how BS admission teams ultimately vet their candidates and determine M10 outcomes. So, please make sure you have checked off everything that is required for each school and follow up to confirm. If your teachers have not completed the forms , or if your apps have other things missing … that should be your top priority and your biggest concern right now.
All the best and good luck!
I had my interview with Choate and Phillips in both the cases the interviewer said taht I was a very good candidate. To quote the interviewer from Choate"you are a very good candidate that would be a great match at Choate". And ti quote the one from Phillips"you have intiative and I feel you are perfect for Phillips and I wish the admission commite selects you". But both of them were alumni interviewers. So does this mean my chances has become better should I expect something. Deerfield interviewer did not say anything in particular but she was an admission administrative and sent me a thank you email. Plus there is a problem due to my teachers I still havent been able to complete my form does this effect me please help.
@Shouvik why didnt you apply to Exeter?
If you do have one that’s your favorite, send your interviewer a note telling them so and why its a good fit. My student who was a track athlete (and did well year after year in NE Championships) told Choate she felt on the track that it was where she could do her best work both in the classroom and on the field. But don’t send your “love letter” to all of them, only one. It can make a difference!
@Center@AppleNotFar I knew abour exter but I felt that I was not qualified enough for exter. But do yoi guys think I could be selected for it?
@Shouvik
Most people consider Andover and Exeter about par… The required qualifications would be the same too.
Application ended back in January. If you didn’t apply its too late…
Applications are over… Relax… Nothing you can do about it now.
Good Luck on M10!
^^^not a good candidate for Exeter without cracking 90% on SSAT. Don’t bemoan missed opportunities. Focus on your possibilities right now.
^^ not true @preppedparent but I think in the case of the OP its too late.
@MAandMEmom ^^^we’ll have to agree to disagree unless candidate is URM or hooked
@Shouvik , why are you applying to private schools in the US? Are you in a similar competitive school in India … St Xaviers in Kolkata /Cathedral in Mumbai/DPS in Delhi? These private schools you are applying to are some of the best out here and will not give you any financial aid unless you are tippy-top or have some major hook. Your folks’ money will be better spent for undergrad or grad school. For that you need to do well in high school and build your resume (SAT, ECs, etc).
@i012575 well I am already in DPS I know these schools are very competitive but if I do not get FA my parents do not have the money to pay for these schools. I’ll continue on in DPS this for me is just a chance at something better. I do have a score of 2202 ub the Ssat and great grade an average of 4.0 this year.
@Shouvik - Did you meet the deadlines for all your apps?
@PhotographerMom Choate was on time but Phillips and Deerfield were a week late each.
