Chances of getting into computer engineering

Hey guys I have a 2.8 GPA and after fall my GPA should be 3.12 with all of degree track D done to transfer into TAMU Engineering. I am also taking a class that will transfer into Engr 111. So my question is that when I apply for the school like around the end of August, they will only look at the classes that were completed in Summer 2010 and previous, but my Fall GPA will raise me up over 3.0 (some say auto admit?) so I was wondering if I am denied, can I appeal and send in my Fall transcripts to still be approved and space is still available for Spring 2011? Also I will have Calculus 3 completed. My CBK GPA will be 3.62 and overall will be 3.12. Any recommendations and tips for applying as a transfer student will be really greatly appreciated and the %'s of transfer students to Dwight Look Engineering School please, if info available. Thanks in advance!

Not very good chances. To be competitive for Engineering, you would probably need at least a 3.5+ GPA with most/all of the degree track completed. Your chances are not even good to get into the University itself (my friend just got rejected with a 4.0 GPA and 45 hours). And I’ve never heard of auto admit for 3.0, which is pretty low/the minimum for most colleges to look at for transfers. I don’t know what to tell you besides trying to get a 4.0 for this summer & fall '10 and apply for Spring '11.

A&M doesn’t release stats for transfer students on specific colleges. Otherwise, it would be listed here. [Common Data Set Report - Texas A&M University - Summary Statistics](http://www.tamu.edu/oisp/common-data-set/)

Actually the admission transfer advisors have told me Engineering is very competitive but it all depends on spots and how many transfers are applying. The Computer Engineering advisor has said computer engineering branches off to 3 different engineering, so if you don’t get into one, put the second as an alternative and because of this, it is an easier engineering program to get into verses petroleum, nuclear or biomedical. Also your friend that got declined with a 4.0 (what was the his/her major and what courses did he/she not complete), is similar to my friend getting declined with a 3.88, the reason being is because he hadn’t even started calculus 1 yet, even tho he only had 2 B’s, rest A’s with about 48 hrs (ballpark).I know still my chances are still slim, but what are some recommendations to improve my chances? I’ve also heard A&M cares dearly about CBK GPA’s and MAJOR courses such as Calc 1/2/3, Chem 1/2 and Physics 1/2 with English 1301 in my case (engineering).

So, that’s basically what I said, competitive. It’s still pretty hard to transfer into any of the engineering majors. And my friend had completed everything and applied for Business & General Studies. She was very sad to find out when the advisor told her that when she got rejected from Business, she was also rejected from General Studies because she went over a 39 hour limit or something (I thought “w t f!”).

A&M does care about major courses, and they also care about what grades you got in those courses. But, they really look at your overall GPA compared with everyone else. You should ask the advisor what you should do. I’ve already said to just do well in future classes for a semester or two and apply. GPA the most important factor for transfer admissions.
