You sound like an ideal applicant, sounds like you’ll get in.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I’m an African-American from California and not applying for financial aid. Which shouldn’t really make a difference.

They prefer private school students and legacies.

Ignore ricck1. Just stupid. No one but an AO can really “chance” you, but you have good academic numbers, pretty good looking ECs, your an URM (which DOES help), and you’re full pay (which also DOES make a difference). So, while no one can really tell you-- because it depends who else is applying this year and how you fit into the class they’re building–you certainly look like a good candidate. But you’ll just have to wait for March 10th to find out for real. Good luck!

First off, this belongs in the chances forum, secondly, being a legacy does help a lot in the case of pretty much every boarding school. That private school thing isn’t true.

Of course legacies help-- but MOST students who are admitted still aren’t legacies-- there aren’t enough of them. Not being a legacy is no reason to think you’re somehow disqualified-- just like in college admissions. (and, just like for college admissions, being a legacy helps, but doesn’t guarantee admission ).

Not saying OP is underqualified, just defending the presumed thought process of a poster that I thought was unfair to be simply dismissed.

You sound like a great candidate. Good luck. Hopefully you will get a big fat acceptance letter from Deerfield!

and some of those green M&Ms

@prepschool101: Actually, being a URM and not applying for financial aid could raise your chances.

Not applying for Financial Aid raises your chances by alot. You sound like a super ideal candidate !! However admission into schools with such low acceptance rates sometimes is completely random. I’ve known students with super low grades and test scores that get in. It really sometimes just depends on luck ! Good LUCK !!!

In my non existent expertise I vote yes, you will get in. Absolutely helps to be URM and not asking for FA on top of excellent grades and SSATs
