My goal is to go to DO school and I’m getting nervous that I might not even have a chance. So I graduated with BS in public health and BA in sociology with a minor in psychology. My GPA’s are as followed
Cumulative : 3.53
Public Health Major: 3.74
Sociology: 3.72
Science : 3.01
I was part of many different organizations on campus and held positions in certain clubs as well as co found a club. I was also a medical scribe and a patient escort during my undergrad as well as hold a part time job. I am currently shadowing a doctor and still volunteering at a hospital while working part time. I also already have one great letter of recommendation.
My science gpa is terrible and Im currently doing a post bac now but I fear that I might get all B’s in my post bac classes. Will this hurt my chances a lot? I took Bio 1 in my undergrad and got an A-, but now with the post bac I may get a B+.
What is Mcat score, it will let you make it or break it. And mind as well disclose your Sgpa(is it 3.01 based on AAMC?) and are you retaking some below C classes? If so, what are they? If all your post bacc are Bs and repeats, that is not a good sign.
I have not taken the Mcat yet because I have yet to take org 1 and 2. Im retaking all the pre req courses to get ready for the Mcat. The big reason why my science gpa is low is because I failed physics 2 even though I have an explanation as to why. The 3.01 is based off of AAMC. Am I really cutting it close?
Here are the 2018 stats on GPA/sGPA and MCATs for applicants and matriculants at osteopathic schools.
https://www.aacom.org/become-a-doctor/applying/general-admission-requirements
Mean sGPA for 2018 entering DO students was 3.43
So your sGPA is on the low side, especially for a more traditional applicant. Your MCAT will make or break you.
Osteopathic schools no longer allow grade replacement so your GPA calculations need to include grades from both original & retaken classes.
When calculating your sGPA for osteopathic schools, you need to exclude any math classes since AACOMAS doesn’t include math as part of sGPA calculations.
You can download an official AACOMAS GPA calculator here: https://help.liaisonedu.com/AACOMAS_Applicant_Help_Center/Submitting_and_Monitoring_Your_AACOMAS_Application/Verification_and_GPA_Calculations_for_AACOMAS/3_Calculating_Your_GPAs

Rule of thumb--NEVER retake a pre-req where you earned C or better. A lower grade in a retake looks really bad.
Is it too late to withdraw from Bio? Or change your enrollment status to audit?
All Bs in retakes or core science classes isn't going to reassure adcoms you can handle the intense academics of medical school. You need more As than Bs.
It’s certainly possible. Try to ace the MCAT. If you don’t get in, take a semester or two of graduate school and reapply the next year. If you get As in those classes, it’ll greatly increase your chances of getting into a DO or MD program. Good luck!
