Hello,
My son is in top 7% in Frisco ISD. SAT score of 1500. GPA 3.89. He has about 270 volunteer hours including 100 or so hours in supervising role. He is involved in few ECs. Though he is in top 7%, it is still not enough to get into any McCombs major. I am wondering what else he could do to improve his chance of getting into McCombs. Any idea would be appreciated.
He is in the borderline of top 7%.
Write great essays and submit a thorough application. Time is up on rank and pretty much on ECs. He has a great test score. The essays are the next big piece of the puzzle.
As long as he stays in the top 7% I think he has a great shot.
Is he graduating high school in 2018? His stats are pretty good, but we know that high schools in Frisco ISD are not so competitive.
Anyway, who told you that it is not enough?
I am not sure. I heard UT officials say, Engineering school takes top 2%, while Management is selective to top 3% of ranks. It could be a general rule.
Class Rank is only one piece of many pieces. I don’t believe I am alone experiencing friends of our children who played the GPA game only to then to be hurt in admissions at UT and other schools because they opted for less rigorous classes merely for GPA reasons. It is one measure and not the only your child will be measured by at UT or elsewhere. Essays, class rigor, accomplishments matter MUCH more – even to UT where they shamelessly admit they care about Class Rank.
