What are my chances of getting into UT?

Hello, I would really appreciate someone’s help who has experience at UT or children with experience. I am currently a junior at a very competitive high school ranked 63rd in the nation and top 1%. The McCombs school of Business is my number choice but I don’t know if I am good enough to be admitted.
About me:
Ranked top 20% of school
SAT: 1525 (math + reading)
National Merit Commended
President of DECA and state finalist 2x
Officer of NHS and Choir
7+ years in choir
NASA HAS Scholar
Intern at Ericcson and Dell
Over 150 volunteer hours and Presidents Volunteer Service Award

I have taken all PreAP/ AP classes available up til now and have received straight A’s, however my math grades are B’s. How important are these grades and do I still have a chance to make it into UT if not into the McCombs School of Business?

The worse case scenario is you will be offered the CAP program for entrance into UT. Getting into McCombs is tough but I think you have the background to do it.

It will be very difficult to get into UT at all if you are not a Texas student in the top 7% of your class, much less McCombs. Holistic review stats at UT are not very favorable. Admissions won’t see your GPA or where you go to school, just your class rank. This is why some Texas kids who are set on UT move to less competitive high schools to increase their odds. It’s dumb, but that’s how their admissions process works.

Your background is still very good and if you are in-state then you do have a reasonable outside shot at admission to the university in a less competitive major. You should definitely take a shot if it’s your dream school, but keep in mind that McComb’s admissions are similarly competitive to many top private universities. You need to look at lots of other schools so that you have options in the event your ship does not come in at UT.

If moving isn’t an option is there anything else I could do? I am very interested in business and UT was also a top choice becaid e of the in state tuition. My family is not very rich so out of state schools are not an option unless I can get a sizable scholarship.

What exactly are you CR and M scores on the SAT? I’ve never seen a score that has a 5 in it…

Your class ranking is going to be a issue while everything else looks good. I think you can get into UT proper but getting into McCombs is going to be a whole different challenge. McCombs is highly selective and this is were you will meet road blocks. I would certainly advised you to make a list of several other schools. McCombs is best public in-state business school in Texas. The competition to get in is fierce.

Just got my most recent score report
CR: 730
M: 800
