Don't panic. I would search CC for posts about schools which do not require SATs. (Or try the College Board website). There are quite a few schools out there who have dropped the SAT requirement. With your grades, you should otherwise be fine. If you have time, take the ACT - many people who struggle with the SAT do much better on the ACT. As for recommending schools - it would depend on what do you want to take, and how far you want to travel.

FYI - the Abbyg who started this thread is at Fordham (see her other posts).

alexaalexandraaxox, You have great stats other than your test scores. You should seriously consider applying "SAT Optional" to several schools. Many top schools offer that option since they realize there is A LOT more to a person than SAT scores. reflect. Too bad Fordham does not have this option. go to fairtest.org for a list

I don't believe this student would have a chance at either Holy Cross or Wake Forest. Both are actually much more selective than Fordham - not a knock on Fordham, just a fact. Even with SAT optional scores - essays become even more important and the SAT scores don't reflect quality writing . reading skills.

Read this article from theramonline Freshman Applications, SAT Scores Up - News and pay particular attention to the words " The SAT is not everything". This may give you some hope.

You have a huge battle to fight to get accepted, and you need to get creative. Contact the admissions office ASAP, remember they are in the business of getting qualified kids enrolled. Ask them what you need to do to earn a look past your SAT scores. Think about additional teacher recs, something from your HS college counselor, a face-to-face meeting, anything that will allow you to demonstrate you can thrive at Fordham.

That said, you need to have "plan B". Line up some safety schools - both academic/acceptance and financial. That SAT score is problematic, not insurmountable but you need to get creative, and quick.

If you loook at Alexandra's info without the SATs, I think there is a pretty good shot at those schools, particularly for a kid from NYC. Top 4% is in the top 10%, BTW :).

Of course, it depends on essays and other things, but her ecs make a good basis for a nice essay if done right.

I really want to get into Fordham as well and I'm scared i might not make it :
sat scores : 580 cr , 550 math, 520 w
average : 91
community service : 60 hours
Do you guys think i can just make it ?

I do not mean to sound rude or anything, but I believe I had a good chance of
getting in because of my essay and the activities I participated in. Also, I worked like 25 hours a week and maintained good grades. SATs are horrible but right now more than ever I think Fordham is basing alot of their acceptances on SATs so with that being said many kids with SATs 450-590 are being rejected.
Please get into contact with your counsler who deals with your app and show him/her how interested in Fordham you are, that helps ALOT!
