Chances of getting into GWU

Hello there,

I’m currently a junior at a highschool in Northern NJ, who is very interested in attending George Washington University.

My weighted GPA is a 3.67

I am currently in 4 AP and 1 Honors class, and I intend to take 5 AP next year.

I have interned with a successful congressional challenger’s campaign and with a state assembly campaign, in their field departments.

I work two jobs. One as a waiter during the summer, and another during the school year as a sales associate.

I’ve been a captain of my school’s Academic Decathlon team since sophomore year.

I’m currently acting as our school’s ambassador for a European educational tour in summer 2018.

My intended major is International Relations/Affairs with a concentration in conflict resolution.

My (new) SAT reading is a 780

My (new) SAT math is a 520

I understand that certain credentials may be low for acceptance, but I’m curious to see what my chances are of getting in. I’d also love to know if any of you have advice on what I should focus on most improving.

Thank you very much.

At the moment, GWU would definitely be a reach, with chances below 25%. Your ECs are good, but your GPA is weak, and your SAT is downright wacky. (1300 composite, but that difference between math and reading/writing is huge!) While GPA isn’t super changeable at this point in your high school career, you have plenty of time to study up hard on your math and retake the SAT. Aim for as close to a perfect 800 as possible to offset concerns about your grades – a 3.67 weighted will be even lower unweighted, after all, and there’s only so much 9 APs can do about that.

Thank you very much for your input. It is much appreciated!
