Oh, btw, I love math and inted to major in it and go to medical school, my other interest.

I think my interview went very well.

College Essay: I wrote it on my love for learning in particular math, and also forensics and an akward situation I encountered and mentioned many times about how i fell in love with harvard the minute i first visited it and how i chose it because of the cool dorms, awesome opportunities, enormous library, best math program, and good food. Also, I kind of mentioned how I am an Ahmadi Muslim- a minority of muslims who are peace-loving, our motto is "love for all, hatred for none", and we have been persecuted ever since our denomination was formed.

I’d say indubitable deferral, if not acceptance.

I am not nearly so optimistic. Nothing about your stats really stands out. There are more students with qualifications like yours than there are seats at Harvard. You should go look and the Yale, Columbia and Stanford ED threads and see kind of applicants who were not accepted. A lot of them will look not unlike you.

If you really want to go to Harvard, take a gap year (since you graduated HS in 3 yrs) and do something amazing.

Hello,

Everyone, please tell me what a hook is, and list some amazing things. Is being in the Math Olympiad Program(top 20 in US in math) or even making the IMO team (top 6) not amazing? What amazing things can I do in leadership? I am working hard to place very high in the national speech tournament and even become a champion. Is this not enough. Pleases give examples of amazing things that got people into Harvard.

I am not seeing USIMO in your original posting, but that is surely the kind of accomplishment that sets one apart.

Even so, there is a stochastic element to admissions at the uber-selectives. One candidate will get into S, but not H. One H, but not Y. One Y but not S, etc. The transitive property does not hold. There are many amazing candidates, and you are surely one of them. You will make the most of wherever you end up.

A hook is typically recruited athlete, legacy, URM, or developmental (big $$ donor family). You appear to be none of the above.

MOP is amazing. You already have an above-average shot, and if you’re an IMOer, you have a hell of a shot. Just relax. It’s a bit too late to change anything. Make sure you filed an MIT app.

I’m pretty sure this is a ■■■■■.

anothuh paki in da house!!!…@polygot…yeah that may be,…but lets just suppose its not…:D…i’d say…more welfare work and inspirational life experiences needed…right now, im trying for harvard med…good luck…though

Hey,

I am real, not a ■■■■■. Also, I was President of Student Council, Captain of Speech and Debate Team, and volunteered in Pakistan, with my dad. We went there for two weeks each summer, and this was, legitimately, a life-changing experience. I saw poverty at its very worst. I mentioned this in my essay, my struggle as a Muslim, and that I want to go to Harvard because of my desire to help my denomination and help people clarify their wrong opinion about Harvard. I also mentioned how I love the campus, and dorms, and think that Boston and Cambridge are the coolest places. I also played piano and kind of was on the track team. I was not good at all in track. Anyway, with these components, and considering all of my other academic achievements, what are my chances of being accepted to Harvard. Could someone give a honest %?

I would really appreciate an answer!!!

Dude, your academics are virtually impeccable. Just make the best out of your EC’s and rec’s, along with the ESSAY-very important. I’d say probably 75% with the stats you have right now.

Ok, can I please have some more input!?!? I am not a ■■■■■; I am a human being.

Well for one thing, you might one to go about really editing your essay YOURSELF. While it is good to get people to read it and offer comments, too many edits can really damage your writer’s voice. From what you wrote about your essay topic(s), it seems like a jumbled mess. I would try to add focus, write about one emotion/event/trial/whatever and stick with that and elaborate.

What you have is beyond amazing, but make sure along with that, your interview goes well. Do more community servive and make sure your essays are really good, like find web sites which will edit your essays. Some of them are really cheap. Other than that, continue getting straight As. My questions are: are you an international student? Also, you have a five listed after every AP class you took, were those your AP scores? If so, WOW, you have a good shot at Harvard

Well, I got 5’s on all my AP’s, but I am not an international student. I am from the south.

and your a junior? anyway, what you have is really good, just keep it up, im going to say, you have 80% chance

^I didn’t know admissions officers from Harvard frequented these boards!!

^What a successful sarcastic remark!

I don’t understand why some people are saying that you have nothing going for you. IMO, your app looks fantastic. Test scores, ranking, and GPA are all near-perfect. ECs are good. Your essay sounds a little boring (how you visited & loved it - this is pretty typical and definitely not unique), but this is the only weakness I can see.

I am not an admission officer, but I would say you have a good shot!

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say anything about being an admissions officer, and I’m pretty sure you don’t have to be one to comment on this, but um, thanks for the remark!
