I am planning on applying to MIT in the fall for a PhD and wanted to know what my chances are. I am currently a Electrical Engineering Master’s student at a top 15 university. I had a 3.80 undergrad and now have a 3.90 GPA for my masters. I have a lot of experience in research, including nearly 3.5 years in the field I want to focus on. I have 2 journal publications (1 cover issue) and have been to 3 conferences. I also won the NSF fellowship this year so I will have my own funding. The electrical department at MIT doesn’t look at GRE score, so I think that’s all the relevant information.
Having an NSF Fellowship is a big plus. You definitely are competitive for admission to MIT but make sure you apply elsewhere too, particularly in places where the research you are interested in is done.
I was planning on applying to a few other universities (Berkeley, Ga Tech, University of Michigan). However MIT would be my number one. There are several professors that are in the field I want to do research in. Thank you for your reply!
