Chances of getting into Rice?

Hello everyone, I would really appreciate some advice on this especially since I am only a sophomore and am looking to setting up my next two years to get on the right track.

Academics:
- Usually around 3-4 AP classes each year
- All A's always
- 163 on the PSAT last year, but I sense next time around it will go way up
- Planning on taking 5 years of a foreign language (Spanish)
- 5 years of math (Including Calculus)
- Planning on graduating with my school's Distinguished Grad Plan

Extra Curricular:
- Been playing soccer for over 10 years now (Varsity school team as well as Division 1 club team)
- By my senior year, I will have been in StuCo for 3 years (most likely 2 as an officer)
- Architecture classes (I'm planning on applying to that school)
- Working various jobs over summers

After looking through the website, I'm feeling a bit daunted, and I am just wondering if I have a chance of getting into the Architecture school at Rice since it has been my dream school for a while now, and I'm really serious about my future.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

:)  :)

Well, you look to be a really great student and fairly good EC’s but I wouldn’t count on the psat score going way up. Mine only went up about 4-6 points between my sophomore and junior years and a 164 is the equivalent of a 1640 on the sat in case you didn’t know.

SO, my biggest recommendation is to take an SAT prep class, (I recommend Princeton review) they raised my SAT from a 1600 to an 1890 or SAT composite from 1100 to 1230!

So, do an SAT class and you should be in pretty good shape!

Good Luck!

Because you’re only a sophomore, it’s difficult to say. Your portfolio, which you haven’t mentioned, will greatly influence your admission. I’d also advise looking for some more SAT help, or perhaps ACT help. Your grades, classes, and involvement in extracurriculars look good. With better SAT scores and a great portfolio, I’d say you have a strong chance!

I applied to rice this year and got in (partially because of alumni ties). I have a 30 act (with a 34 in math) and a 3.65 gpa so i would say your grades are good just keep your test scores high. I also know rice focuses heavily on the interview and essays. So if you are interested in rice, definitely get an interview. Good luck!

Thanks everyone so much, this makes me feel a lot more optimistic about things! I am definitely going to look into some SAT prep classes.

Thanks again!
